In two close Friday night contests at the Batavia gym Owensville high teams handed the Batavia lads losses. The junior varsity led 19 to 17 at the final buzzer with Owensville taking the first game. The varsity followed with a 29 to 27 defeat as Batavia struggled for scoring punch while Owensville relied on lucky offense and strong backfield. Officials note improved play and band selections during intermissions.

James Daniels Receives Jail Sentence For Assault
James Daniels, involved in a Moscow shooting, is returned to the county jail to complete a six month maximum term. He had two months pretrial confinement and was convicted of assault and battery downsizing the initial shooting with intent to kill. Alva Cramer of Moscow was the victim. Daniels, a Florida resident, could offer no reason for the attempted shooting and will serve four additional months plus a $200 fine.

Amelia Home Destroyed by Fire
A defective flue in John Linson’s farmhouse two miles south of Amelia caused a fast spread fire Friday morning. The eight room frame house and a nearby barn were destroyed, total loss about 4000 dollars insured. The bucket brigade tried to save belongings but failed. a fireman was killed due to a ruling preventing response outside the town line.

Henry Andres Dies in Mt. Carmel
Henry Andres, husband of Elizabeth Wittner and father of Marie Mollett Margaret Smith John Pete and Ruth Andres, died at his Mount Carmel home on November 11 1940. Frederick K Pearson, 74, of 315 West Seventh Street, New Richmond, was identified by William C Ripberger after his body was found on the Ohio River bank. W. E. Stough of Mansfield Ohio re elected for a three year term on the Farm Credit Administration board based in Louisville.
