In Batavia Ohio the city reports the animal shelter nearly completed with roofing in place. Officials say construction advances bring the facility closer to opening and aid for stray and rescue services in the region.
Melvin J. Duncan, 28, arrested in Batavia raid with a 15-year-old youth and two Batavia girls. Duncan faces charges including possession of LSD and marijuana and providing hallucinogens, plus delinquency. Juveniles face unruly and marijuana charges. several items including a stolen credit card and birth certificates were found. Duncan to appear in Batavia court today and Juvenile Court on November 17. investigation involved Judge Chris Erhardt and assistant prosecutor Mel Reifin.
Seven persons face grand jury indictments. Russell E. DeMarks, 54, of 778 securities, charged with three counts of sale of securities by an unlicensed broker. Harold B. Coyler, 43, Goshen, two counts of incest. Roy Combs Jr., 18, Amelia, breaking and entering. John Mathes, 26, Cincinnati, non-support. Jasper R. Warman, 19, Afton, larceny and breaking and entering an inhabited dwelling at night. Charles Marshall, 22, New Richmond, malicious destruction of property. William H. Poe, 35, Felicity, carrying a concealed weapon.
Clermont County commissioners held a public hearing on a 196 000 extension of the PUB Water System to Beechwood and Mt Carmel side roads. The plan would use assessments to cover 55 380 of costs with 40 customers per mile rule. Some fear unfairness if fewer sign for service. others favor water access and potential assessment relief if bids come in under estimates.
Betty L Fithen says a single Courier ad sold her car quickly after three months of no luck. She credits the paper for delivering results and thanks the Courier at 4449 Mt Zion Rd.
Batavia council accepts the resignation of Councilman Dean Smittle who moved out of the village. Mayor Jamieson plans to invite Bill Mast to attend the December meeting before taking office in January. Pierce Waste Collection contract limits discussed as dumping costs rise and more dwellings are served.
Ohio Township Trustees challenge expansion by John E. Coyne citing zoning prohibitions on junkyard use for 4.73 acres across Twelve Mile Rd in New Richmond. Lawsuit seeks fence or relocation of junked cars from the road and notes lack of a business license. A second statewide action requests fence construction or 300 foot setback. Suit filed in Clermont County Common Pleas Court last Friday.
Paul H. McCarthy of Williamsburg-Bantam Rd joins Ralph Nader's Raiders to halt the East Fork Reservoir construction between Batavia and McCarthy. The group claims the project lacks presidential and federal environmental approvals and pledges funding for the fight with involvement from the Ohio Public Interest Action Group and attorney Susan White visiting from Colorado.
James O. Foster won the Moscow mayoral race with 120 votes while Theodore Eugene Hastings received 42. Earlier election returns showed a reversed tally. Williamsburg Village renewal tax levy passed 327 to 183 and the police protection levy failed.
Miss Brown a 1970 Bethel High School graduate and journalist joins the new committee. Crawford a University of Cincinnati senior and Clermont County Young Democrats leader. Batavia Township Club reorganizes at 7 30 p m November 17 at 22 Main St Batavia with former members urged to attend. Pierce Township club meets November 15 and Union Township club November 16 with refreshments and public invitation.
Russell Simmons, Clerk of Courts, announced a new law effective Nov 2 requiring that applications for motor vehicle title certificates be filed within 15 days after transfer. If not filed in time, a $5 late fee is added to existing Chapter 4505 fees in the Ohio Revised Code.
