Civic Club Retains Counsel For Water Rate Campaign

At the Upper Clough Civic Club meeting on November 4, John D. Brown was named legal counsel for the water committee. The group plans a petition drive and asks water users for a $1 donation to fund the campaign. Water savings since the last rate cut total about 91,000 dollars, with annual per-user savings of 16.80 dollars, and potential future gains of 16.80 more per year. The club hopes to extend water service where feasible and aims to sign petitions at local merchants and with signatures turned in to the Commissioners in December. The club’s venue lists Civic Club, 786 Clough Pike, open 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 13 for petition signing.

Dr. Lancaster Named To Board Of Health

Sum merside physician Dr. R Kirby Lancaster was appointed to the Clermont County Board of Health to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dr. A Gordon Schulze of Amelia due to ill health. Schulze was thanked for his many years of faithful service. The board referred plumbing procedure for lateral installation and bonding to the Plumbing Committee with Larry McCord explaining performance and surety bonding for contractors and plumbers.

Brown mutilated in corn picker accident near Mt Carmel

William J Brown, 40, of 4383 Beechwood Dr, was trapped for 35 minutes in a corn picker last Wednesday afternoon near his Mt Carmel home. He was taken in poor condition to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Mariemont. Deputies, life squad, and two salvage crews freed him. Brown, married and father of three, was operating a rented tractor.

Commissioners Open Bids On Road Salt

International Salt Co. of Clarks Summit made the lowest bid at 11.25 dollars per ton for salt to furnish county ice and snow control. The next lowest bid stood at 12.80 dollars per ton.

Pierce Trustees Back Lower Water Rates For PUB District

Locust Corner Pierce Township trustees in a Nov. 5 special session endorsed a reasonable water rate reduction for current PUB Water District users while ensuring the system’s finances remain sound. They also approved a minimum $7 monthly rate for new users extending water lines, as council previously set. Mrs. Ashburn was appointed clerk treasurer, effective immediately for the year. A bridge and sidewalk at Bauer Street near the new high school will be installed soon. The mayor authorized an Ohio National Guard parade from the Armory to the cemetery at 7:30 p.m. Veterans Day observance.

Union Township shows 17.5 percent rise in backing for the Clermont County hospital bond while the issue fails county wide with 44 percent support. Batavia leads with 59.7 percent, other townships show mixed gains and declines across the 1964 to 1965 vote shift.
