Forty-Nine Clermont Men Drafted in October

Clermont county inducted forty-nine young men in October split 18 from Selective Service Board No 1 and 31 from Board No 2. Navy led with half, 15 in the Army, the rest in Marine Corps and Coast Guard.Inductees hailed from Loveland Miamiville Milford Batavia Amelia New Richmond Bethel Williamsburg Moscow and other townships with several named individuals assigned to specific services.

Third Son Enlists in Army as Brothers Serve Overseas

Mr and Mrs Harvey Brown display a third star for their son Maynard joining the Army. Their two other sons Harold and Richard have overseas duty. Richard remains in the South Pacific while Harold recovers from injuries at a Brigham City Utah hospital from Guadalcanal combat.

Farm leader Battles profiles in Chesterland Ohio

Born and reared on a farm in Chesterland Ohio Richard Battles built wide farming experience and earned a 1954 degree from Ohio State University College of Agriculture. He is a member of the American Farm Bureau and the Grange, and is married with two children.

Speidel Named Head of Clermont Boy Scout Finance Drive

Russell F Speidel Clermont County attorney and member of Nichols Speidel and Nichols chosen to head the annual Boy Scouts finance drive beginning November 2. He aims to finish by Pearl Harbor Week December 7 and will coordinating with Brown County drive. Speidel has served as Field Commissioner for Cubbing the past two years.

Clermont County Announces dairy production boost plan

Edward C. Saxton announces a dairy feed program for Clermont County with two payments during Oct-Dec 1943. Eligible producers receive 35 cents per cwt for whole milk and four cents per pound for butterfat, based on October to December sales, with proof via milk statements and receipts.

Ration Book Registrations Increase in Clermont County

Registration for Book 4 closed with 31 984 issued in Clermont County, 201 more than Book 2. Loveland district excluded as residents served from Hamilton County. Twenty nine Clermont schools with 225 teachers aided. schools dismissed at 1 pm during the three registration days.

The D A Council of Williams burg will give flags and bibles for each room at Marathon school on November 15 at 2 00 pm sharp. Judge Chas White will be principal speaker and the public is invited.

Piano Pupils Present Musicale at Batavia Methodist Church

About twenty five boys and girls from Batavia performed at a piano musicale Wednesday evening in the Batavia Methodist church. Miss Bess Walker directed the program with two duets by Joan Ely and Nancy Patchell and Peggy Koegler with Nancy Kincaid. Other soloists included Colleen Murphy, Frank Murphy, Jimmie Murphy, Clara Barbara Stagg, Patsy Hopping, Rusty Speidel, Hazel Mays, Ruth Ann Smith, Norma Jean Pattison, and many more young pianists. The audience joined in God Bless America.

Musical Festival At United Brethren Church Dec 1

A musical festival will be given at United Brethren Church on Wednesday evening December 1 to benefit the church music department. Rev I E Jenkins directs the program using church talent with a supper in the basement before the show. No admission will be charged and supper revenue comes from free will offerings.

Rationing Calendar for Processed Foods and Fuels

The notice lists Blue stamps X Y Z in Book 2 valid through Nov 20 and Green stamps A B C in Book 4 through Dec 20. Brown stamps G H in Book 3 valid now with key dates in November and December, Sugar Stamp 29 in Book 4 through Jan 15 1944, and Shoes Stamp 18 in Book 1 plus No 1 airplane stamp in Book 3 valid for one pair each until further notice. Gasoline stamps line shows three gallons through Nov 94, with B and C two gallons until used. Buy a Bomber Campaign Aims at Clermont County Club

Batavia Junior Woman's Club in Southwest District leads a drive to help fund three bombers priced at 300000 each. Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs backs the effort by urging War Bond purchases across seven districts. Club members and supporters will instruct bond gifts to credit the federation. total sales will underwrite a bomber once 300000 is reached.

Local Board No 2 reports Col C W Goble State Director of Selective Service says delinquent registrants will be reclassified to 1-A 1-A-O or IV-E starting November 1 and ordered to report for induction or to a conscientious objectors camp. Noncompliance leads to US attorney investigation and possible trial.

Schultz Celebrate Golden Wedding With Family And Friends

Mr and Mrs John Schultz marked their golden wedding anniversary in Clermont county with a large family dinner at the Miller home in Batavia and an afternoon reception near Owensville attended by about ninety five guests including several from Cincinnati. Their five children and ten grandchildren were present except two grandchildren now abroad and stationed in Tennessee. Gifts included flowers and greeting cards as they gratefully welcomed well wishers. Ailing neighbor William Henning is improving at his South of town home.

Clermont County voters approve nine school levies to meet rising expenses amid wartime conditions. Batavia elects Arthur C. Munden as mayor, defeating Neal B. Dennison. New Richmond ousts Lawrence Robbins for John B. Ginn. Bethel and Batavia levy renewals pass. levy funds provide $7,500 annually for Batavia schools.

Mt. Carmel Glen Este P. T. A. will sponsor a hobby show at the school at the next meeting on Friday Nov. 19 at 8:00 p.m. Exhibits include canned goods apples flowers and plants needle work eggs corn quilts antiques dolls bread service boys pictures and a general collection. Entries must be in by Friday Nov. 19 at 5:00 p.m. The building opens Thursday afternoon and evening and all day Friday. Entry for a prize.

Three Fires Hit Geo W Triber Property In Clermont County

A Friday blaze near Glen Este destroyed three barns and contents, damaged two houses, and burned a Carrollton area farm. Fire firms from Anderson, Madeira and Newtown fought the flames amid wind and water shortages. total loss exceeds 30 thousand dollars with partial insurance. Diesel Engine Graduate Clyde Allen Boys Advanced in Navy School

Clyde Allen Boys aged 19 son of Mrs Leona Boys of Chile recently completed a Diesel Engines course at the Naval Training School within the Naval Air Technical Training Center on Navy Pier Chicago Illinois. He was promoted to Motor Machinist's Mate second class.

Batavia Speakers Compete In Prince of Peace Declamations

Three declamation contests were held in Batavia Sunday night under the Ohio Council of Churches. Winners at each local church received bronze or silver medals, with further scholarships and cash prizes offered at district and state levels. Contestants included Rita Weinmann, Clara Barbara Stagg, John Dial, Dorothy Mauck, Julia Shepard, and Agnes McKinney with county and district contests upcoming.
