Harsha Wins In Race For Congress

A contractor error in digging up telephone cables near East Hyde Park cut communications and delayed results. William Harsha of Portsmouth won the Sixth District congress seat with 79 565 votes to 64 670 for Franklin Smith, while Ward Miller topped his race for an incumbent term with 76 507 to 61 760 for Gladys Davis. Local totals show Harsha 15 714 to Smith 12 521 and Miller 15 798 to Davis 11 446. Other measures include TB levy 115 568 to 13 228, Miami and Pierce zoning, Goshen rejection, Union township fire levy and Batavia school renewal levies passing.

History Society To Honor Amelia

The Clermont County Historical Society hosts its final village history session of the year at 8 p.m. Friday Nov 11 in the Mt Lookout Building and Loan community room. Amelia residents and Clermont County are invited. James Wooldridge gives the welcome, Mrs. James Davis presents Amelia history, and Armistice Day programs by the First Ohio Light Artillery Club are included. A St Bernardette School group sings war songs.

County health meeting to hear restraint and rehab reports

Clermont County health committee meets at 8 15 p m Friday November 11 at Batavia Presbyterian Church chaired by Robert L Crowe. Club Aims to Raise Money for Band Uniforms

Owensville North eastern District Music Club meets at Northeastern high school at 8 p m on Monday November 14. Entertainment will be by the band and individuals. Members decide supper date and review aid to the school music department. Cake walk refreshments. Parents and band members are selling subscriptions to The Courier to raise funds. Pat Skeen Undergoes Major Operation in Batavia

Patricia Skeen daughter of Dr Frederick Skeen Batavia underwent a major afternoon operation at Christ Hospital for an acute gastro intestinal obstruction. Her condition was critical but showed signs of improvement and Dr Skeen planned to resume practice by Thursday November 10 with her parents at her side.

Recorder's Monthly Deed and Mortgage Totals

County recorder William Shebesta reports October activity with 358 deeds versus 329 in September. Mortgages recorded total 361 valued at 3,763,922, down from 377 and 4,416,657 in September. There were 725 chattel mortgages filed, down from 785. He will publish monthly figures to inform the public about county growth.

Clermont County went GOP in the national race while Kennedy carried the presidency. Local results show Rhodes winning auditor, Ferguson defeating, Hildebrant ahead for First District Court of Appeals, Bell leading for Supreme Court, ONeill top for the unexpired term, and Anstaett and Hook winning county commissioner seats. Recount possibilities loom in Parker vs Simmons for clerk of courts and public offices across the county reflect mixed party outcomes with incumbents largely prevailing.

County Woman Is New OES District Deputy

Mrs. Kiva Beyer of 4067 McLean Drive was named deputy grand matron of District 22, Ohio Eastern Star, covering 21 chapters in Clermont and Brown counties. The appointment was made in Cleveland on October 27 by Mrs. Doris Preston, worthy grand matron of the Grand Chapter of Ohio. Mrs. Beyer is a former president of District 22 and past matron of Covert Chapter 547 Tobasco.

Judge Assigned For Isons Bribery Trial In Ohio

Judge Louis J. Schneider of Hamilton County Common Pleas Court is assigned to the bribery trial of Clermont County commissioner Don Ison who polled 6758 votes in Tuesday's election. The trial begins November 28 after Chief Justice Weygandt named the panel and Judge Harry Britton requested a replacement. Ison faces four counts alleging he accepted money from four sources to influence board actions.

Citizens Propose Goals for West Clermont Schools

West Clermont residents urged better teacher training higher salaries and more guidance counselors at a state conference. They called for central vocational schooling parent education ability grouping and mixed testing including essays and objective tests. A citizens committee was proposed to explore new teaching machinery and materials. A separate notice announced a Vera Cruz Church card party on November 12 at St Patrick's Hall Fayetteville.

Boy Scouts Celebrate Court of Honor Achievements

MT CARMEL Troop 464 held a fall Court of Honor at Summer Side Methodist Church. Eighteen scouts earned new ranks, 21 shared 58 merit badges, and two Scout Life Guard awards were presented. Dan Ruark and Jerry Bertrand received Eagle Scout oath, while Bob Clemons earned Bronze Palm. Life Scout badges went to Steve Brooks Gary Meyer and Frank Jeffries.
