Anstaett Demands Immediate Probe Into Missing File Incident

Commissioner Zenas Anstaett urged a thorough and immediate investigation into missing material from the Cherry Grove Plaza records. He called for a review of the commissioners journal and all files, pledging full cooperation with the county prosecutor and stressing public access to records.

Ison Bribery Trial Date Set

Clermont County commissioner Ison faces a four count bribery indictment and will go on trial November 28. Judge Darrell Hottle denied moving the trial before November 8 citing need for depositions outside Clermont. Ison seeks a bill of particulars. Judge Britton asked for a different judge to oversee the case.

County Recovers 52000 Shortage From Bonded Former Treasurer

Prosecutor Ralph A. Hill announced at a county meeting that the county recovered 520,000 plus 2,000 in interest from bonding companies for former Treasurer John P. Friend Jr who was paroled after embezzlement. Remaining is 2,217.08 and 610.85 interest. Bonding firms paid varied sums, with 75 percent of funds going to schools and the rest distributed to taxing districts.

Missing Plaza Letters. Clark Verifies Loss in Files

A report that letters about Cherry Grove Plaza construction are missing from county commissioners files drew Charles F. Clark to say the situation appears correct. Prosector Ralph Hill found original letters could not be located during a search in the old Elections HQ where files were moved. Clark said letters were received over a year ago and search for them continues. In the Don Ison bribery indictment he is charged with accepting a $1500 check from Cherry Grove to influence his vote as commissioner.

Sheriff Candor Spurs Debate on Clermont County Traffic Arrests

Fred Hoh, a Democrat candidate for sheriff, challenged Clyde Dericks’s record, arguing the sheriff’s office made only 13 traffic arrests from June 28 to Oct. 21, 1960, while the State Patrol logged 713 arrests in the same period. He cited revenue from fines and urged a more effective traffic-enforcement program for Clermont County. Continued on page 6.
