Bethel residents challenge beer sale referendum with a recount requested by Clayton Hitt and Fred Fannin. The tally shows 882 against beer to 349 in three Bethel precincts, with recounts costing 10 dollars per precinct. Election Board meeting set for next Friday night.
Calendar lists cases from November 11 to 17 in Common Pleas Court. Notable entries include Kitchen Maid Corporation vs Henry Greenwald money jury case, Loraine Pavlovitch vs Melvin Pavlovitch alimony, Marshall vs Marshall divorce, McAllister vs Breitenback money, Patton vs Patton divorce not contested, Joe Daugherty vs Sylvia Daugherty divorce not contested, W D Saunders vs Edward Miller money, Elizabeth Davis vs Industrial Commission of Ohio death claim.
Mrs. John Glanecy of near Blanchester suffered a broken collarbone cuts and bruises and her husband fractures of the face when their automobile over turned near Butlerville on November 7. They were en route from Eaton. Their son escaped injury. The car was wrecked. Mr. Glany is a former Bavarian.
The National Unemployment Census will take place November 16 nationwide. The 14 card questions collect data on age, trades, industries, and regional unemployment to guide remployment and social support programs. Williamsburg School hosts its second annual Community Festival November 11 and 12 with displays prizes and refreshments.
Gladys Bauer won first place at the Prince of Peace Declamation Contest held Sunday night at the Batavia M E church. Five contestants included Charles Hauck Geo Wolf Mary Jane Applegate Leonard Katanich. Second place went to Charles Hauck with Frank Hoggett J Eb Evans and Ralph Lemon awarding. The county contest is in December with a silver medal for the county winner and district contest around January 1. The next event is in Columbus during the Pastor's convention first week in February.
Batavia Eastern Star met Monday night and elected Worthy Matron Mabel Miller Worthy Patron John Fetzer Assoc Matron Daisy Wilson Associate Patron Homer Wilson Bertha H Rush Secretary Mary Homan Conductress Hazel Studer Associate Conductress Mayme Halbisch Dorothy Koening was chosen for social hour duties Gertrude Hillin spoke about her trip abroad.
Members of Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion and Auxiliary will meet at the Armory on Armistice night to hear Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Hillin report on European activities during their recent trip. Meeting at 8 p.m. Refreshments.
All citizens urged to join Armistice Day events at the Court House Corner. American Legion members Auxiliary and Boy Scouts meet at 10 30 a m at the Armory then march to the corner where Taps sound and a salute is fired. Church bells are requested to ring. Frank W Weaver Post 287 American Legion.
William McKay of Olive Branch died Sunday November 7 at home. Funeral services were held November 9 at 2:00 pm at Olive Branch M E Church, with burial in Olive Branch Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth and three sons and a daughter.

Amelia High School opens basketball season November 12 hosting Moscow in a girls and boys double header.
The Bethel Board of Education won an appeals court ruling upholding Judge Bagby’s decision in the Bethel Tate School suit. The ruling requires the Bethel district to levy beyond the ten mill limit to cover interest and bonds on the new and old school buildings. The consolidation benefits carry a bonded debt that Tate Township must help repay. PTA card party scheduled Friday at 8 p.m. in the school building.
East Hill Farm Club gathered Thursday afternoon with 17 members including leader Mrs. Stella Moore. Readings were given by Mesdames Moore White Bushbacker Binkley and Bernstein. Officers elected for next year are Helen Holman president Mantie Binkley vice president Gladys Ashton secretary Stella Moore treasurer and Mrs Pindell press reporter. The contest winner was Mrs Bernstein. Refreshments of homemade cupcakes and coffee followed. A social hour preceded plans for a pot luck dinner with Mrs Florence Balter on Dec 2.
