Ribbon Cutting Set for Rt 74 Dedication in Mt Carmel

Mt Carmel town officials plan a Sunday November 18 ribbon cutting for the ROSE HILL Rt 74 improvement. A parade will precede the ceremony with a program at the Mt Carmel Glen Este school auditorium. Committee members include W E Gene Gordon Tom Fortney Cliff Ward Bud Fuhr and Ray Riggs among others.

Local Democrats Win Two County Offices in Clermont County

Clermont County voters backed Eisenhower with 14 848 to 13 221 and Stevenson 9 026 to 9 702 in 1956. Democrats gained recorder and commissioner seats as William Shebesta defeated Mosbacker 11 006 to 10 940 and Don Ison won the commissioner post 10 131 to 9 709. Regular Republican incumbents held several posts, Polk won Congress, Lausche captured the U S Senate, and state offices reflected a Republican tilt with O Neill and Saxbe carrying key posts.

Funeral Director John R. White Dies at 78

NEW RICHMOND John R. White 78 longtime funeral director died at Christ Hospital after being admitted early Monday. Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at T. P. White and Sons Funeral Home Mt Washington with burial in Greenmound Cemetery. He is survived by his widow Fern a daughter Virginia Croxton a son Tom D. a sister and a brother.

Batavia Sets 1939 Charity Ball on December First

Batavia's eighth annual Charity Ball aims to attract residents to the Batavia Armory for an evening of dancing with music by Billy Snider and his Kentucky Colonels. Sponsored by the Junior Women's Club, the event has become Batavia's traditional year end social.

Narrow Defeat for Amelia Williamsville Tabasco School Merger

The proposed consolidation of Amelia, Williamsville Tabasco, and Glen Este Mount Carmel districts failed by a small margin with 54.68 percent in favor. Amelia district 632 yes 1201 no, Williamsville Tabasco 693 yes 217 no, Glen Este Mount Carmel 1262 yes 735 no. 55 percent needed. Other county results pending Friday.

Obstetrician To Join Local Batavia Office

Dr. P R Dobert of Batavia announces Dr Quinton DeBrosse of Cincinnati will join his practice each Wednesday starting Nov 14 from 7 to 10 pm at the Batavia office. DeBrosse, Miami University and College of Medicine graduate, has three years obstetric training and two years with Dr Ralph Eddy in Cincinnati.

The State Board of Tax Appeals set November 29 for a hearing on Clermont County Library Board’s appeal of the county budget commission’s reduced operating funds. Attorneys Chris Rosenhoffer and Charles Jackson represent the library board.

Batavia Business Men Set $750 For Yale Events

The Batavia Business Men's Association voted to spend $750 for street decorations and its annual Christmas party at the Armory. Last year’s spend was $1250, with savings of $500 from reusing 1955 decorations. They also approved repeating last year’s Santa Claus visit to the county seat and named committees for decorations nativity scene armory party Santa Claus promotion and more.

Week's Sales Up Year Figure Down in Clermont County

Clermont County weekly sales tax receipts for the week ending Oct 20 totaled 20 187 51 up 5 801 57 from last year's 14 335 94. Year to date collections reached 250 524 33, down 26 615 51 from last year's 277 139 94. Nineteen counties exceeded last year's cumulative totals. 35 counties topped last year's weekly receipts.

Former Ohio Fair Head Speaks at Farm Bureau Meeting

H A Steward president of the Clermont County Farm Bureau Federation announced the federation will meet at the Evangelical United Brethren Church Batavia November 13 at 8 p.m. Sam Cashman director of market development for the Ohio State Farm Bureau and former manager of the Ohio State Fair will be guest speaker. Batavia school music department will provide special music. Members who paid 1957 dues may receive a door prize.

Clermont County issues ten new permits this week per William C. Bryant of the Ohio Department of Liquor Control. American Legion Victor Stier Post 450 Milford receives a D 4 private club beer wine or liquor by the glass till 1 am. Emil's Cafe on Rt 50 Perintown gets a D 3 liquor by the glass till 1 am. Republican Leader Confined To Home By Leg Blood Clot

Clermont County Republican executive committee chairman Guy Holmes is confined to his home with a leg blood clot and is reported in fair condition. Clermont County voters turned out 24,315 on Tuesday. the 1952 presidential vote totaled 22,923.
