Clermont aviation academy proposal moves toward UC branch

Ohio Board of Regents considers a Clermont County Clermont County branch near Batavia for the University of Cincinnati to offer aviation services. The effort began in 1967 with Rep Massey and Rep Cadwallader gaining Gov Rhodes support, with OCAS and OMI involvement and a June 1968 study by Dr Krueger outlining objectives for an aviation services college serving Ohio Indiana and Kentucky.

Clermont National Bank Mails 5000 Christmas Club Checks

Clermont National Bank sent 5000 Christmas Club checks totaling 500000 to members on Wednesday November 5. The bank reports an increase of over 30000 from 1968 and notes the holiday money will boost Clermont County’s economy. The 1970 club opens November 7 with a serving tray prize for new accounts and Veterans Day delays.

Pair Granted Probation In Arson Attempt

Larry Curry and Gary McKinney both 17 of Owensville pleaded guilty to attempted arson in the Fair Ground grandstand fire. Judge Louis J. Schwartz granted probation and ordered $1,000 payments to the Fair Board within five years.

Auditor Cites New Annual Tax Rates On House Trailers

Clermont County Auditor Arnold Stumpf announced a new law changing annual mobile home taxes effective Nov 25. The minimum tax doubles to 36 dollars or 35 percent of value, whichever is greater, with furnishings affecting figures. About 1556 trailers registered. roughly 300 owners face tax. Tax due within 30 days of acquisition. penalties apply if late.

Pierce Township bids open for concrete bridge and slope repair

Monday opened bids for two Pierce Township projects using county engineering services. Jones Construction Co for a concrete bridge and section relocation bid $51,625 against $53,000 estimate. Langheim & Thompson bid $34,254 for slope correction near Nine Mile and Tabasco Road versus $38,792 estimate.

Miss Surry to celebrate 100th birthday on Nov eighth

Miss Mattie D. Surry of Amelia Ohio Pike will observe her 100th birthday on November 1. The youngest of seven, she grew up on a Mt. Pisgah area farm and remained active in the Methodist Church. She worked at a Hamlet grocery, later lived with relatives, and now enjoys reading, writing, and correspondence with relatives. She plans a quiet day with mail and greetings.
