Voyage Letter from Wenatchee to Yokohama Aboard the President Grant

A former Wenatchee resident now in China sends a long travel letter from Aug 81 to Sept 20 detailing a stopover in Wenatchee, the voyage aboard the S S President Grant via Seattle and Victoria, daily meals and ship life, fog warnings, meetings with Rev. J. H. Edgar, and hopes of serving in Linchow China. The writer notes crossing the international date line and plans to reach Yokohama by Sept 20 while sending greetings to homeland friends.

Rabies Treatments Available Through Clermont County Health Board

The Clermont County Board of Health received three rabies treatment sets for public use. Doctors may obtain these for patients who cannot pay or pay only part of the cost. The initial seven treatments will be provided immediately for suspected cases, with dog licenses aiding funding.

The Gift Shop in connection with Bettys Book Shop Batavia opened Friday with many hand made articles on display. Silhouettes towels pillow cases and door stops were shown along with pottery and other useful items. The ladies in charge aim to help Batavians shop at home this Christmas.

Bethel Men Organize Winter Recreational Club

A meeting of Bethel business men and others formed the Bethel Men's Recreational Club. About forty attended in the School Auditorium. Dues are estimated at $3 per member to cover auditorium rental and equipment for in door baseball volleyball and other games. Halloween Masked Party Brightens Batavia Armory

Batavia and surrounding county held a Halloween event hosted by the Batavia Band at the Armory. About 500 attendees enjoyed parade, costumes, and dancing after selections and prize judging by Will Grace, Geo Gregg, and Homer Buerkle.

Mrs Earl Davis Dies After Long Illness

Mrs Earl Davis of Williamsburg died Friday morning at home after a long illness. A public spirited citizen and noted singer and whistler, she was devoted to her town and the needy. Funeral Sunday from the home with burial in the home cemetery. Survived by her husband Earl Davis and two half sisters.

Citizens urge A B C highway route designation

A large delegation from Clermont and Brown counties gathered in Georgetown on Monday to advocate designating a state route named A B C for Adams Brown and Clermont counties. About 500 participants including men women and students marched with a school band and banners from the Court House to the Public Building to file the claim.

Saxton Guilty In Liquor Possession Case At Gally Hill

Sheriff Roberts and deputies arrested Harry Saxton of Gally Hill last week for liquor possession. He pled guilty before Judge White and received a 750 dollar fine plus costs and is jailed until paid. His father is in Ohio Penitentiary for the same offense.

Open rabbit season to run Nov 16 to Jan 1 with bag limit

Two weeks after last Friday marks the start of the open rabbit season from November 16 through January 1. Hunters may take five rabbits per day and may sell them only during the season. Foxes may be killed in the same period, with opossum and skunk allowed November 16 through March 1. County Auditor Ketchum mailed $260 gas tax checks to each of 14 township treasurers as the year’s second installment for road improvements, following a $300 prior payment.
