Prisoner Seeks Hearing Over Trial Rights Violations

Lester Laws of Cincinnati challenged his Clermont County Common Pleas Court trial alleging denial of a lawyer and speedy trial, claiming ignorance of signed papers. Judge Harold D. Nichols ordered a hearing with Judge M. Dale Osborne and steno testimony from Dora De Tellum, while a prior probation issue influenced the proceedings.

Arguments Heard In School Bus Suit In Ohio District

Judge Luther Swaim heard motions to dismiss a suit by Franklin D Barker and Myron C Taylor challenging West Clermont School District transportation of parochial students. Attorneys argued the board's resolution affects last year making the issue moot and that state officials beyond the local court should be sued only in Franklin County. The case parallels a Metropolitan County suit ongoing since last fall.

Two N One Opens in Batavia at 421 West Main Street

Charles and Mildred Eagle open the Two N One Restaurant in Batavia at 421 West Main Street after six years operating a Glen Este location. The eatery offers ham burger sandwiches with chicken shrimp and fish lunches and takes carry outs. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am to 8 pm. closed Sunday. The Eagles have three daughters Brenda Marsha and Angela. The WSCS of the First Methodist Church of Batavia holds its annual election day luncheon on Nov 8 at 11 am.

Escapee Bound Over In Court

Richard Fueston of Milford bound over to the Grand Jury on escaping confinement. Bond set at 2000 dollars. Fueston escaped last May en route to a physician's office and was recaptured recently in Bell County Kentucky. He had only days left to serve a light traffic sentence when he escaped.

Veterans Receive First War Service Stamps At Ceremony

Commander Carlos S Hutsonl of Chapter 63 DAV and Amelia Postmaster Kenneth Myrick exchanged the first stamps honoring servicemen of all wars during the sale opening last Thursday. Mayor William Pommert spoke at a pre purchase ceremony with Adjutant Robert Branham Junior Vice Commander Lester Brook and Commander Hutson. Also present was Commander David Lillich of Clermont County Spanish Algerican War Veterans.

County Faces Four Equal Salt Bids For Winter Use

County commissioners must choose among four identical bids for ice and snow salt at 13.80 per ton from Diamond Crystal Salt Co Morton Salt Co Wadsworth International Salt Co and Cargill Inc. The price rose from 11.25 last year and selection may be by distance, delivery method or by lottery.

Tragic rollover kills 4 year old in Clermont County

Four year old Rebecca Nelson died after a car rollover in Willowville when a truck driven by Gary Horton struck the Nelson vehicle causing it to flip. Rebecca died en route to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. Deputy Sheriff Charles was injured in a separate accident early Saturday.

Benefits from auto license revenues in Clermont County rose since the Porterfield Act of 1961. Auditor Roger Cloud cites last year’s share at 742 091 with a cumulative increase of 709 465 since the law took effect. Election Day closings affect Ohio Liquor Control stores in Milford and Batavia.

Voters weigh eight Clermont offices in low contest election

Clermont County voters, 33,736 registered, head to polls Tuesday with few hot issues. Ballot includes two countywide questions, six village and school items, four township items, plus county commissioner and auditor races and seats in the legislature and U.S. Congress. Candidates include Metzger, Blake, Hill, Rosenhoffer, Yelton, Carlier, Massey, Nagle, Dennis, Harsha and Reno among others. A judicial poll of Clermont Bar Association shows Hill and Yelton leading for county court seats, Schwartz and Jackson high for probate and court judges.
