Former Batavia mayor John F. Paschal 77 died after months of illness at Christ Hospital Cincinnati. Funeral services were held at Moore Funeral Home Batavia with burial in Roanoke Virginia where he lived before moving to Clermont County. He worked for Norfolk & Western Railway and served as Batavia mayor for ten years. He left a widow Carolyn Paschal a son R Bruce of New Orleans and four grandchildren.

Clermont County Commissioners asked the Economic Development Administration for a 2,478,000 grant toward a 3,540,000 sanitary sewer system for Amelia village and Batavia Township.
