Felicity for Youth raises funds for school courts

The Felicity for Youth Organization reports over 3300 dollars raised to build tennis and basketball courts at Felicity High School. The group aims for 10000 dollars by spring 1979 with first use by students and public access during vacations. Donations can be sent to Felicity for Youth care of Jim Williams Felicity Ohio 45120.

Union Township Trustees name Jerry R. McBride to fill vacancy

Jerry R. McBride is appointed to replace Mrs. Donnellon on the Union Township Trustees, effective June 1, 1978. A Clermont County resident and Glen Este High School alumnus, he holds a B.A. in political science and an M.P.A. from the University of Cincinnati, and has just completed the Cincinnati Law School requirements and passed the Ohio Bar in July 1977. He resides at 4855 Beechwood Road and practices law with Masters and Company at 464 Cinti-Batavia Pike.

West Clermont Ed Board Reach Short-Term Accord

Five month impasse between West Clermont educators and the board of education is resolved though some minor questions remain. Terry Risner, president of the teachers association, says negotiations over unresolved points will continue.

Milford Frontier Days Parade Opens Weekend Festivities

Milford hosts Frontier Days from June 1 through the weekend with a 7:30 parade forming at the Milford shopping center and proceeding along U.S. 50 to Elm Street and the American Legion grounds. More than 70 units, Thunder Chicken, square dance demonstrations, clown face judging, cross country racing, canoe races, flower displays, cake decorating, art shows, and donut sinking contests featured amid rides and amusements.

Batavia council reappoints Gregg to cemetery board president

At a May meeting James Gregg of Batavia was reappointed by the village council to serve again as the president of the cemetery board. Gregg reported driveways in cemeteries would need some repairs. The total cemetery receipts for the year were $12,659 with expenditures of $12,601 leaving a balance of nearly $850.

New Richmond Names Larry Graves as Principal and Coordinator

Larry Graves, former Georgetown High School principal, is appointed principal of New Richmond High School. The 750 student 2 Class AA school will also have Graves as instruction coordinator, replacing retiring Harold Rawlings. Graves holds a bachelor’s from Ohio University and a master’s from Xavier University.

Day Heights Fire Festival Canceled Amid Construction

Day Heights volunteers cancel the town summer festival after 14 years to allow ongoing firehouse expansion. Chairman Dave Hensley says the 16 year old building will gain three more bays, with about 120 work days remaining to finish construction. The festival is not rescheduled yet.

Loveland to Undertake Large Summer Street Resurfacing

Loveland approves a major street resurfacing program this summer starting July 1 and lasting about thirty days. A $100 000 appropriation funds half of the city’s road expenditure since 1970 with bidding opening June 1. Commissioners halt waterline extensions in Goshen Township

Clermont County Commissioners moved to temporarily block Harlan East Fork Water Systems from adding customers along Woodville Pike in Goshen Township. Residents petitioned for a county water extension east along Woodville, while Harlan East Fork contracted residents for rights of way. County Administrator says most seek county service though no immediate action was set. residential taps cost 125 dollars now, rising to 360 in about 30 days.

O Bannon Creek wastewater plan advances amid appeals

Clermont County Commissioners approve a 16 million O Bannon Creek Wastewater Treatment facility with seven intent to appeal notices filed. Critics fear high frontage fees and property sales to fund the project and worry rural Goshen area development. Some residents vow legal defense while Legal Aid Society represents low income residents as bids proceed, delaying the project.

Four trailer fires rock Milford area over Memorial Day

Milford and Miami East fire crews fought four fires in under 24 hours in the Milford area over Memorial Day. A major blaze at Harry's Trailer Service on Wolfpen Pleasant Hill Road and SR 28 destroyed multiple campers and a motor home, with losses estimated between 60 000 and 100 000 and arson suspected though not proven. Earlier, at Thielman's Mobile Home Sales on SR 28, five mobile homes burned and two damaged in a 3 am fire, with losses about 65 000. investigators called it very suspicious and samples sent to the state arson lab. A small trash fire behind the Milford ing Center and a fire at Terrace Park Country Club caused smaller losses.
