Memorial Day weekend events at the Southern Ohio Coonhunters Association Owensville Ohio include three day water races for coon dogs with a grand final Monday at 5 p.m. Admission is $1 for men over 16, free for women and children. Amelia Village Council Sets Order of Projects
Mary Kohus was sworn in as an auxiliary policeman on a part time basis. The council approved a sequence of actions including adding regular police officers, street repairs, curb work, drainage improvements, expansion of the village lot, free garbage collection, and a storage building. A West Batavia propane gas explosion shattered windows and ceilings as a second blast produced a mushroom cloud. Rescuers, fire crews, and police from across the county mobilized within minutes. A 32,000 gallon tank nearby prompted evacuation and safety actions. Lieutenant Bob Hayden warned of the danger if the tank had ignited. Firefighters stayed past 5:30 PM, while Red Cross volunteers, aided by local officials, fed and treated victims. Moonlite Chili owner supplied meals to responders as volunteers assisted 150 evacuees and 200 fed via mobile canteen units.
