Henry Jope and Clarence Barber near Point Isabel owned a 110 by 9 foot tobacco bed with 50 000 plants ready for setting. Unknown person cut down every plant last Thursday night, leaving no trace. deputies Brooks and Abbott investigated with no clues.
Annual meeting of the Cler mont County Clearing House Association slated for Batavia Armory on June 18. Program includes welcome by Batavians, banquet, introductions, readings, a whistling solo, nominating committee appointment, music, committee reports, and dinner at 7 p m with officers John Huntington president H C Rowan vice president and H R Reed secretary treasurer.
Comrade Henderson Estes Middletown attorney to speak at Memorial services in Union Cemetery Wednesday p m. Estes is a past commander of Middletown Post. Batavia parade forms at Armory at 2 o'clock with Frank W. Weaver Post Drum Corp in line. DAI Legion men and Auxiliary urged to be at Armory at 2.
Ray Lucas of near Georgetown suffered severe cuts and bruises three broken ribs and a badly wrenched right leg when a stock truck carrying sheep cattle hogs and pigs struck a tree near the O T Brown home above Bantam. His brother Will drove the truck and Mrs Ray Lucas Estel Earhart were passengers. The driver momentarily lost control while trying to light a cigarette. Lucas was treated by Dr C O Davison Bethel and returned home to White Oak Valley.

A Clermont County report on the Family Recovery Program shows progress from a meeting of the Family Recovery Committee. Attendees included Mrs Ray Ferree Goshen Herbert Lemar Moscow James F Robinson Locust Corner E B Baugh county farm agent Fred Croswell county relief director Frank Willis county commissioner and Albert Kellum committee clerk. The committee has been allotted 600 for its May budget and livestock is being distributed.
The Batavia bride contractor tells the Courierman the new bridge opening will be about July 4. A large dance and civic exercises will mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting by a child, uniting East and West sections after months apart. Committees plan the event for the county. The steel concrete bridge features a 20 foot driveway and dual walkways, with electric lights at both ends and the center.
The township trustees and clerks of the county held their annual meeting at the court house Monday with a large attendance. RK. C. Knause of Pierce township presided. J. R. Thomas, State President, was the main speaker.
Perry Rice of Cincinnati was arrested at Afton last Thursday night for larceny from a freight car at Clare. Two N and W detectives seized him. he waived examination and was bound over to the grand jury in 2500. He was taken to Cincinnati Friday to identify Homer Swain, who faced charges and was bound over. Rice’s partner remains at large.
The first Religious Education in Leadership Training school at Pleasant Hill M E church closed May 22. Miss Sarah Pollock from Elenor led with Rev A O Long of Bethel as instructor. About 80 received certificates. seven S S were enrolled. visitors attended nightly. next school planned in autumn with same leaders.
The Moscow Consolidated School board unanimously renamed all returning staff for the next school year. The high school teachers are Paul G Meranda Supt Anna Rogers Eldon Budd and Margaret Wenzel. Grade teachers include Wayne Hayden Margaret Cramer and Ruth Suter. Music is taught by C D Wallace.
Baseball results show Batavia seven run ninth inning rally but loses 17 to 16 in 10 innings to Newtown after 3¢ hours and 37 hits. Amelia loses 8 to 3 to Owensville as Owensville hits five home runs off Gene Witschger. Bethel drops 7 to 4 to Williamsburg while Newtonsville shells Mt Carmel 18 to 6. New Richmond Tramps beat Cincy Builders 16 to 3, with next Sunday sees rematches across six towns.
Everett Groves, once a Batavia farmer now running a Pt. Isabel farm, exhibited crops in Batavia. A branch eight inches long bore 11 peaches. six trees heavy with about 20 bushels each. He reports healthy tobacco plants, thriving garden truck, early peas, and good tomatoes. corn stands a foot high and early potatoes need rain. The secret is early planting followed by cultivation.
Locust Corner Grange drew a large attendance for the May 17 gathering featuring the Mothers and Fathers program. Speaker Mr. Rummell from Columbus, Ohio, will present Century of Progress photos at the June 6 meeting, which is open to all.
The U B Sunday School Good Cheer Class will hold a picnic at Grant Memorial Park Point Pleasant after church services on Sunday June 8 1934. All members and their families are urged to attend. Mrs Stanley Anstadt president. Miss Hilda Bauer of Hamilton is visiting at home this week.
