Ten Indictments Returned By Clermont County Grand Jury

The April term of the Clermont County Grand Jury returned ten indictments and no bills after two days of sessions led by Judge Harry Britton. Notable charges include arson against Edgar Barnes and Eunice Reese for setting a tenant house fire near Batavia on March 13, with Barnes also facing auto theft tied to a separate incident.

Milford Garden Club Luncheon Planned for Friday

The Milford Garden Club will meet at Mrs. Guy Rhodes home on Happy Hollow Road at 1 pm on Friday June 6 for a covered dish luncheon. Members should bring their own table service. The committee includes Mrs. W. Smyser Mrs. W. Bell Mrs. Anna Lewis Mrs. G. Rockwell Mrs. Ruth Brower and Mrs. L. Pfeiffer. Farmer narrowly escapes collapse of steel bridge

Guy Carr, a farmer near Pt. Isabel, crossed a steel bridge on Route 743 across Big Indian Creek moments before it collapsed. The structure fell into the stream bed, the road was closed, and workers began dismantling the wreckage. Traffic between Moscow and Pt. Isabel was rerouted through Felicity, Laurel, or Calvary, adding miles to travel.

Batavia to Receive May Water Bills for First Time

Batavia residents will soon receive May water bill statements marking the first use of the new system. Payments remain at Blocher's Pharmacy with a penalty if not paid by the month’s end. New water deposits or landlord guarantees will be required for new users.

Mass X Ray Program Aims to Fight Tuberculosis in Clermont

Clermont County residents gathered at the Batavia courthouse to discuss a mass X-Ray program. Hugh C. Sauer of the Ohio Tuberculosis and Health Association advised steps to inaugurate the effort. The plan, sponsored by the Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association, envisions a free X-Ray survey for all county residents with state unit support hoped for this fall or winter. Fire destroys business and apartment building in New Richmond

A partially completed business and four apartments in New Richmond were destroyed by a Saturday night blaze. Loss was about 20000 dollars. Fire started by a short circuit in a wrecked auto on the first floor, then spread when new hallway flooring ignited. Tenants included Charles A. Duncan Lawrence Goetz Gerald Meranda and Arnold Harp.

Auxier Brothers Prepare New Store Rooms in Batavia

Batavia on Main Street will gain two remodeled rooms as Auxier brothers remodel for an appliance and paint shop opening in a few weeks. A mobile display room will follow while Water Street remains a garage and storage area. Memorial Day programs will honor soldiers of all wars with parades and ceremonies. Most business houses will close for the day, and many residents may take extended trips over the holiday weekend while others attend ceremonies.

New Richmond will observe Memorial Day with a flag presentation by the New Richmond Post Veterans of Foreign Wars at 2 30 PM on a flagpole gifted by the D of A Lodge. Victor Stier Post American Legion oversees Milford ceremonies with a veterans parade at 9 30 AM from Mill and Water to Greenlawn Cemetery and then St Andrews Cemetery. Newtown plans a Memorial Day parade Friday afternoon led by Mayor George Rabe Fire Chief Chris Binder and a committee marshalling the event.
