Mysterious cougar sighting reported near Batavia

A strange animal crossed the N and W line near Batavia at 4 am eliciting a scream from observer John Paschal. Game protector Edgar Anstaett notes cat like tracks four inches long and a 19 inch stride suggesting one or more cougar like animals, with reports of fewer dog attacks recently.

Republican Veterans to Receive Charter at Batavia Armory

The Clermont County Republican Veterans organization will receive its charter at the Armory in Batavia during the second meeting on June 6. A prior organizational meeting was held there last Friday with Judge Otto Hess and Joseph Campbell aiding in planning. Tom Pierson, Harold Simmons, and James Griffith were named temporary officers.

Sportsmen to Hear Talk by A. E. Martz

Clermont Sportsmen hold their regular meeting at the clubhouse with A. E. Martz addressing on legislation of interest to sportsmen. Refreshments follow. At 8 pm May 27 Clermont members and families attend an open house by the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History.

Batavia High to Hold 66th Commencement Exercises Friday

Twenty seven seniors will graduate at Batavia High School in the 66th annual commencement Friday evening. Bac calaureate services were held Sunday. Jacob E. Davis of Kroger Grocery will deliver the address. Dr. F. G. Sheen will present diplomas with American Legion awards by Earle Kincaid. Wilma Earls will give the oration and Dolney will be class president.

Batavia Clean Up Campaign Delayed by Rain

Residents of Batavia pursue the Clean Up Paint Up effort with a town hall event and a Friday parade postponed due to persistent rains. Janet Anstaett, 15, injured in Route 74 crash weeks ago, is noted alongside the local band. Parade plans and schedule extend into the following week as organizers work around weather.

Memorial to WWII Soldiers Unveiled at Amelia School Lawn

A WWII memorial will be unveiled at 2:30 pm on the Amelia School lawn. A parade from the post office starts at 2 pm, followed by afternoon program and veterans’ participation. A dusk ceremony at the D. of A. Hall concludes the observance.

Anstaett Girl Succumbs In Tragic Death

A girl from Anstaett dies after a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 pm at Sunday Evangelical United Church with local family and friends in attendance. The brief notice notes the family’s connection to the nearby school and local firms.

Tower Music Dedication Honors Goshen Township Servicemen

The Goshen Methodist Church installs a tower music system to be dedicated May 25 at 10 30 am honoring Goshen Township servicemen. Seven from the community died in uniform and are named Blaine Huston Howard Gibbs Richard Shafer Louis Heywood John Philhower Lester Eder Arthur F Gears. The Rev Pixler notes the project memorializes these men and others who defended freedom.

Revival at Lindale Baptist Church Opens Sunday May 25

A revival will open at Lindale Baptist Church Sunday May 2 and run nightly at 8 p m except Saturdays until June 15 or longer. Rev Maurice L Bates pastor will be evangelist with wide revival experience across the eastern United States. Rev H D Myers pastor of Newtown Baptist Church will lead as soloist and song director.

Important County Roads 10 to be Repaired This Summer

Bids open in Columbus at 10 a m June 3 for six Clermont County highway improvements totaling 71 181 85 dollars. Roads to get bituminous surface include State Rt 132 in Stonelick Goshen and Batavia Townships 132 and 222 in Franklin Township 133 in Jackson Tate Williamsburg and Batavia Townships 74 in Batavia Township 132 222 routes.

Examination of Children Is Completed in Clermont County

Pre-school health rounds for children entering school next fall were completed across Clermont County. County Health Commissioner W. H. Gaskins led examinations with nurses Angella DeFelice and Ada Hoffman. Twenty-one schools were visited. 407 children were examined. 246 received vaccination and 236 diphtheria immunization. Exams began at Batavia on April 23 and ended at Branch Hill on May 19.
