Jury Convicts Farmer of Animal Cruelty
Frank Meisman a Laurel Lindale Rd farmer arrested April 7 for neglect and cruelty to animals was found guilty by a county court jury. Judge Lawrence Carlier gave 90 days in jail but suspended it along with $100 of a $200 fine and placed him on two years probation requiring cooperation with Humane Society Agent Walter Raidt and veterinarians to remedy the conditions. Raidt and Deputy Health Commissioner Harvey Hines reported cattle starving and others deprived of food and water during the incident.

Highway Grants For Industrial Area Development
Two highway grants fund road improvements around the Clermont area. A $324 100 grant finances an access road from SR 278 to SR 32 with two lanes on SR 27 toward the Appalachian corridor and four lanes south to SR 32, aiding existing and future industrial sites and the East Fork Reservoir area. Total project cost is $492 000 with 850 acres rezoned for industry and new firms planning moves. A second grant of $74 500 covers McMann Road from SR 12 to Pike, serving Clermont Industrial Park though its narrow lanes limit industrial use, for a total project cost of $122 500.
