Clermont county earns a Quota Flag and an Honor Pennant from the U S Treasury Victory Fund Committee for surpassing its 150 percent quota in the Second War Loan Drive. Milford banker F C Hartsock chaired the local campaign and plans call for flag and pennant ceremonies on Decoration Day in Clermont County.

Fitzpatrick Family to Attend Naval Academy Graduation

Dr J C Fitzpatrick and wife of Amelia will leave June 4 for Annapolis Maryland to attend graduation exercises at the U S Naval Academy Their son Wayne Fitzpatrick is a member of the class and will receive his Ensign commission in the U S Navy at that time They will return to Amelia on June 11.

Clermont Farmers Face Urgent Planting Push Under Wet Spring

Clermont County farmers race to plant 35 000 acres of corn and 13 000 acres of soybeans after persistent rains since May. County Agent Roy Battles says many fields remain unbroken on flat ground and only full farmer cooperation can finish by fall frosts. Gas Tax Decline Hits County Highway Budget Projections

With gas consumption dropping in early 1943, Ohio counties face cuts totaling about 23 to 25 million dollars for street and highway work. Clermont County stands to lose roughly 21 500 from its 125 000 working fund as engineers reassess miles of damaged roads, bridges, and construction needs. Traffic counts show statewide declines of 27 to 35 percent for January through March, while average passengers per car rise to 2.13 from 1.93.

Newtown Youth Named Top Kick In Air Force

Robert E. Jameson of Newtown Ohio becomes one of the Air Corps youngest first sergeants at a squadron in British Guiana jungle base. A 1922 birth and Terrace Park high school graduate, he rose from mechanic to mess sergeant to lead a six state area of patrol missions for the Antilles Air Task Force.

Ration Book III Applications Open in Clermont County

Clermont County citizens are urged to obtain and submit War Ration Book III applications between June 1 and June 10 1943. Prospective applicants must have a responsible household member handle the form, include all names and addresses, sign, affix a 3 cent stamp, and mail between June 1 and 10. Books replace Book I and cover sugar coffee shoes and some items.

A mimeographed home canning form mailed to neighborhood visitors misprinted a line reading 3 Ibs. inlets 38 and should state 10 Ibs. per person. The corrected line amends recommended yield per person for food preservation guidance.

Farmers who sell direct to consumers and small slaugh terers must file Form R-1609 for May. Mail two copies to the Board June 1 1943, one to the Board and one for distributor records. Report all stamps or checks sent to the Board on that form. In future, mail no stamps or checks during the month. send collected stamps or a month end check with the report. Ensure monthly reports henceforth. If forms are missing, write the Board to receive them.

Time Changed for Memorial Service in Batavia

Memorial Day services in Batavia will be advanced one hour with a noon parade from the Armory on Sunday May 30. The program lasts about 45 minutes and ends before churchgoers can attend. Rev. Charles Williams of Batavia Presbyterian Church will give the Memorial address. Flag raising occurs at the new cemetery pole, then at 1:00 pm the Legion proceeds to Stonelick Owensville and Amelia districts for further services.

Leonard Anstaett Dies in Owensville

Leonard G. Anstaett died at his Owensville home on Saturday May 22 after a life as a farmer. Survived by wife the late Mary Bulow Anstaett and children Esther Estella Clyde Clarence Herbert and Mrs E J Snider, plus four brothers Edward Jacob Charles and Albert and two sisters Mrs Carrie Schultz and Mrs Lydia Hoffman. Funeral services were held at 3 30 Tuesday from the United Brothern church.
