George H. McClellan urges mail by June 10 for War Ration Book 3. Many early forms were misfilled or unsigned, delaying returns. Official forms must be used for each family group at one address and mailed to the Columbus Mailing Center.
Mr Roy Battles County Extension Agent will be a special guest at Marathon Grange Friday night June 4. Members urged to attend and show appreciation for his visit. The program is planned as a surprise with sandwiches requested and all Grangers and officers welcome to attend.
Mrs Hugh C Nichols is visiting her mother in Salem Indiana for an informal family visit during the weekend.
Government ration board announces stamp validity through summer for processed foods blue stamps through June 7 blue K L M through July 7 and red meat stamps through June 30 red stamps J K L M N dates June 6 13 20 and beyond coffee sugar stamps with extended through Aug 15 and 30 including 15 16 canning guidance shoes gasoline tires and fuel oil details with renewal reminders and registration note.
The Cincinnati District Office notes Clermont County and Board 7 in Cincinnati bear the heaviest loads yet operate efficiently. Despite understaffing and volunteer shortages, the board benefits from a strong office force and devoted, unpaid members led by George W. Gregg. Members are listed by panels and duties.
Clermont Grange announces a Memorial Service on June 16 at the Newtonsville Methodist Church. The Clermont County Food Preservation program schedules meetings across the county to teach canning drying and food preservation to households. Experts Miss Marjory Stanley Mrs Ruth McConnaughy and Mrs Margaret Robinson will lead with local volunteers. Public invited free sessions run June to July at various schools and community buildings.
Muriel Elizabeth Erion valedictorian of Batavia High School receives the Seventh Annual Reader's Digest Award for leadership potential. She earns a one year honorary subscription and an engraved certificate from the editors. Erion is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Erion of Batavia.
Troop I members met Tuesday to urge Batavia housewives to save waste fats for explosives. On Saturday they sold poppies and joined Sunday’s Memorial Day parade. They plan overnight camping trips with further meetings scheduled this week for final arrangements.
Thomas A. Gallagher announces second installment statements for 1942 income tax due June 15 are being mailed to taxpayers. He notes no pending legislation relieves June 15 payment and urges taxpayers to send the statement with the remit tance after receipt.
The Ohio State Council of Defense will host a two day war services conference at Ohio State University in Columbus on June 19 and 20. About 500 local defense council delegates are expected to attend to discuss housing education nutrition and other war service programs. Gov John W Bricker and neighboring state governors will speak on Sunday after a general Saturday session.
The USDA War Board of Clermont County announces an advisory panel to manage pressure cooker rationing. Members include Mrs. John Friend Batavia Mrs. Dale Bee Bethel Mrs. Robert McConnaugh ey Owensville Mrs. Rolla Anderson Goshen and Miss Marjorie Stanley Batavia. An application form is mailed to prior inquiries and available at the AAA Office in Batavia or from Miss Marjory Stanley F. S. A. Batavia. Details on eligibility will follow.
Ohio highway officials report a steady drop in automobile traffic on state roads outside cities for the first four months of 1948 versus 1941 and 1942. Director H G Sourse cites monthly declines from January to April ranging from about 25 to 41 percent, attributing the trend to gasoline rationing and shortages of tires and replacement parts.
Carl Bruce first honor student of New Richmond High School is notified by Adjt. Gen. J. A. Ulso that he has passed the Army Navy pre induction test and now is in the Enlisted Reserve Corps. He expects to enter the Army this summer.
Wilbur Elden Ludwick of Georgetown was commissioned a Second Lieutenant after completing the Officer Candidate course at Fort Benning Georgia. He is the son of Rev and Mrs Lewis G Ludwick and husband of Grace Anstaett Ludwick. He will attend Motor Maintenance School in Columbus Georgia.
Latest reports from Good Samaritan Hospital indicate Arthur Meinken, a clerk in the office of County Engineer Carl Rush, is somewhat improved after a stomach ailment. He was hospitalized last Wednesday and received several blood transfusions to ease his weakened condition.
The War Production Board authorizes an additional 125000 pressure cookers as part of 1943 total 275000 for home canning. Edward C. Saxton says distribution will lag retail supply. county rationing remains in effect with first priority to groups ensuring large canning output. Purchases require written notification and a purchase certificate tied to expected canning output.
Carroll Anstaett of Batavia suffered a severe finger injury while catching for the Miami Redskins in a Saturday Oxford game against Ohio State. He had recently joined Miami University and was their first string catcher before the accident.
The Clermont County blackout is set for June 8 as part of a county wide drill requested by military authorities. Army officers will observe, air raid warnings will sound across communities, traffic will be stopped for part of the blackout and dimmed lights with reduced speed apply at other times.
OPA officials urge destroying all unused expired food ration stamps at month end to prevent stockpiling by unscrupulous retailers and potential black market activity that could devalue ration currency and harm consumers especially farmers with large home canned stocks.
The Batavia 4-H group Axis Smashers met at the Batavia school house to begin a needle case project with extensive sewing. Recreation followed at 4:00. They plan to meet next Wednesday at 1:30.
The Office of Price Administration amends meat rationing rules to allow farmers to consume meat from livestock raised on any farm they own without surrendering ration points and to transfer meat between their farms. City dwellers or nonfarm residents must surrender points. Farmers must certify meat from custom slaughterers as for family use with details including name address and animal's origin.
