Citizens urged to report price ceiling violations

Government wartime price controls aim to curb inflation. The Office of Price Administration asks citizens to report violations to the War Price and Rationing Board in writing, including store name, item details, receipts, and signer information.

Women train in food preservation plans for Clermont County

County women met in Owensville with Ohio State University specialist Nellie Thompson to learn canning and drying techniques for wartime food stocks. Miss Marjory Stanley directs plans for township meetings with help from local educators and county figures, starting shortly after June 1.

Batavia Grange to Initiate Ten Candidates May 27

Batavia Grange will initiate ten candidates on Thursday May 27. Regular meetings are scheduled for 8:30 in the summer months. A covered dish lunch will follow the initiation. Marie Henke serves as Secretary.

4 H Dairy Foods Girls Demonstrate Wartime Nutrition

A county wide meeting of Farm Bureau Grange and Livestock committees elected Dale Bee as Clermont County Victory farm picnic chairman for August 19 at Owensville fair grounds. Ralph Lemon became vice chairman with Roy Battles as secretary treasurer. The event supports wartime needs by promoting milk use and dairy products through public demonstrations by 4 H Club girls including drinks custards cheese butter and ice cream. The 1943 National 4 H Dairy Foods Demonstration offers medals and $50 War Savings Bonds to top individuals and teams.

Summerside church society meeting announced

The Woman's Society of Christian Service at Summerside church will meet June 3 with a covered dish lunch at noon and a 1 30 pm business session. Viola Maddox leads the lesson Across the Nation With Our Rural Workers. hostesses are Mesdames Jessie Brown and Ethel Brown.

Memorial Day Observance Planned by Frank W. Weaver Post

Memorial Day services observed by the Frank W. Weaver Post of the American Legion are set for Sunday May 30 with time changes for cemetery ceremonies. Batavia members meet at the Batavia Armory for a parade to the cemetery led by the Batavia High School Band leaving the Armory at 1 00 p m Eastern War Time. Participants from the Post and Auxiliary are urged to attend as exercises will be held at Stonelick Old Bethel Amelia Mt Moriah and Olive Branch cemeteries.

Annual Red Cross Meeting Set for Clermont County

The Clermont County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting at Batavia School on Friday June 4 1943 at 730 PM All residents who gave $1 or more in the War Fund are members and urged to attend A report of last year activities and a Board of Directors election will be presented Moving pictures of Red Cross work will be shown A National speaker and Blood Donors Service representative from Cincinnati may attend to discuss a mobile unit or appointments Reports on War Fund results and chapter finances will be given and attendees will hear plans for the coming year.

Batavia High School Plans 29 Graduates May 24

Batavia High School will hold its 62nd annual Commencement in the high school auditorium on Monday evening May 24 at 8 30 p m. Diplomas will be presented by Robert Dorsey president of the Batavia Board of Education to a class of 28 with Dr A H Upham president of Miami University as speaker. Baccalaureate services are set for Sunday May 23 at 8 30 p m with Rev C R Spangler delivering the sermon.

Named To County Farm Labor Post

J. A. Ashton, a longtime Clermont County farming figure, was named Clermont County Emergency Farm Labor Assistant by the County Farm Labor and Machinery Committee. He begins immediately and will recruit and place farm labor, coordinate with grain and soybean harvest facilities, and work under County Agent Roy Battles from the agent’s office. Farmers should contact him early with labor needs and timing.

Farmers in Clermont County warn of a delayed planting season as fields flood from ongoing rain. Up to May 17, 3.41 inches of rain fell with rain on all days except 12 and 13, hampering corn and soybean planting and labor availability. Ohio Department of Highways announces Memorial Day readiness of 278 roadside parks across the state. Welcome signs will be up for the holiday weekend. parks include picnic tables, fireplaces, water, toilets, and some offer shelter houses and fishing. Parks are state maintained and vandalism guarded by patrols. last year attendance exceeded 4 million.

Death of E. R. Foster at Piketon

Relatives mourn the sudden Friday death of E. R. Foster of Piketon an N and W Railway agent. He formerly worked in the Batavia office. He is survived by his widow Florence Foster nee Buerkle and a son Jack Foster. Funeral and burial were held at Piketon Sunday afternoon.
