Murder Trial Opens Tuesday in Beckner Case

The State of Ohio v Charles Beckner Jr starts next Tuesday with a large juror pool. Farmers from New Richmond may be disqualified by farming duties as the murder case draws spectators and a hard-fought trial ahead. a dying statement from the victim is noted.

New Richmond High School to Hold 40th Commencement

The New Richmond high school will hold its fortieth commencement on Thursday May 26 at 8 p m at the Opera House. Weber's Orchestra Cincinnati will play and Prof Alfred Hall Quest of the University of Cincinnati will deliver the address. Graduates include Morley Figgins Louis Waggal Edna Smith Alice Prud ent Catherine Peterson William Erdman Helen Vogel Mary Louise Castlen Gilbert Marsh Milton Hendrickson Edmund Nelson Alma Light Mildred Carnes and Paul Strittmatter. A Strenuous Life presented by the Senior class May 20 was a major success coached by Mrs Gay Sutherland of Cincinnati.

Penants Display From Batavia Field Meet Attracts Readers

Nash's show window features Batavia boys and girls penants from last week's Field Meet. The display includes four large felt pennants, two silver caps, three baseball bats, one baseball, one face mask and many red white and blue ribbons. The girls won one large pennant. more schools should participate next year.

County approves pike bonds with no objections

County commissioners held a special session last Wednesday to hear objections to bonds for constructing the Williamsburg to Hamilton county line pike. No objections were filed, paving the way for rapid construction as bonds are advertised this week and contractor notices follow.

Sunday Schools Convention in Franklin Township

A convention of the Sunday Schools of Franklin township will be held on Sunday May 29 at 2 oclock p m at Felicity Presbyterian church. Rev Small of Wilmington district worker will present the coming year work. All schools in the township are asked to send many delegates. Everyone welcome.

Batavia Students Lead In Spelling and Junior Banquet Glow

Batavia school reports show grades 2 through 8 exceeding national spelling standards with high averages and notable gains. The Junior banquet for the Senior Class featured stunts, relay crackers, an 80 inch dash, marshmallow string race, and a candlelit feast guided by Miss Irane Hulick. The Baccalaureate will be preached by Dr. A P Smith at the M E church on May 29 with commencement tickets on sale May 30 at Nash's Drug Store.

The commencement dance will be held at the Batavia Armory Friday evening May 27. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Rotary Club donors fund Highland Park crippled children camp

At a Cincinnati Rotary Club meeting held at the Hotel Linton, $4,000 was donated to establish a summer camp at Highland Park for crippled children. Geo. F. Dieterle outlined care plans while noting the favorable grounds and access to supplies from nearby towns.

New Felicity School Superintendent Selected

Prof. N. B. S. Heidlebaugh of Batavia has accepted Felicity schools superintendent post for next year after two years in Norwood. A new $385 000 school building is expected to be erected this year.

Batavia Boys Win Field Meet at Boston Fair Ground

Batavia defeated Milford 8 to 2 in a spirited Thursday game at the Boston fair ground. A large crowd witnessed the contest regarded as one of the season’s finest, with both sides cheering their best and Batavia earning the silver cup prize.

Milford woman dies of pneumonia at 75

Mrs. R. D. Sapp died at her Milford home last Monday after a long illness. She was 75. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the M. E. church with burial in Green Lawn cemetery.

Soldier’s Body Arrives For Burial In Bantam Area

The body of Henry Johns who died in France two years ago arrived Thursday morning escorted by an army officer and taken to his brother Will Johns at Bantam then to his parents’ home. A large Batavia Legion turnout attended Sundays Old Bethel church funeral with ritual by Batavia Legion led by Prof Jordan. the Batavia band played taps as the casket was interred.

Brown and Clermont County Outing at Cincinnati Zoo

Brown and Clermont counties plan large annual outings at the Cincinnati Zoo on Saturday August 6 with arrangements by Tom Swope Wm Crone and Allen Roudebush. Bethel crash survivor slowly recovers after buggy accident

Clarence Burke remains unconscious for 86 hours after a Bethel street collision when an automobile struck a buggy, throwing Burke and his female companion. Burke shows slow recovery with no broken bones and the lady passenger escaping with minor bruises.

Burglars entered the Higginsport post office and general store last Wednesday night and took a considerable stock. Bloodhounds from Manchester tracked scent but could not follow it far.

Repairs Planned for Red Bridge Over East Fork

The red bridge above Batavia in Clermont county will get a new roof sheetings and siding after Rome Murphy won the contract. It is one of the few remaining covered bridges in the county and well known locally.

Aged Lady Sarah Dial Dies at 98

Mrs. Sarah Dial aged 98 passed away at her son Frank's home near Centerville last Wednesday and was buried at Olive Branch on May 2. A well known longtime resident of the township she lived many years in the area shaping local life. Plenty of shade and shelter fair ground Owensville July 4.

The Clermont County Holstein Breeders Club meets May 28 at the Farm Bureau office Batavia to discuss breeding goals and club purposes. The pupils of Summit school will present two short sketches Beat It and Economical Boomerang recitations and more at Summit school Saturday evening May 29 at 7 30. Ice cream and cake will be served for the benefit of the school.
