Batavia high school holds commencement at town hall on Wednesday June 1 at 4 15 p m The program includes a salutatory by Pauline Winemiller an oration The Evolution of Electricity by William Moore The Meaning of America by Elizabeth Jamieson an oration by Carl Boania and performances by the Batavia Orchestra Prof 8 M Thompson Ohio University Athens and Dr Geo H McCullough deliver a benediction The Williamsburg Township High School also holds its annual commencement on May 31 with Dr Hall Quest Cincinnati University delivering the address and a Conservatory quartet providing music The class play runs May 25 and 27 at E of P hall tickets on sale after May 24.
Memorial services for Geo W Robinson Post G A R set for Sunday May 29 at 10:80 am at the Amelia Methodist church with Rev Burgett delivering the sermon and a Decoration Day address by Prof R A Jones. Spanish American and World War veterans are invited to attend and sit with Civil War soldiers.
A blaze at the J. A. Clark ice plant and mill in Milford partially destroyed the mill and severely damaged the flour mill. The ice plant bricks stood beside the mill and the fire endangered the lumber yard. Loss on feed machinery and building about 10000 dollars. The Pennsylvania railroad sent a fire engine to assist.
Joseph Ranson died after a paralysis stroke suffered in J. M. Wiseman's store Tuesday evening. In poor health months, he was 77. Oldest Odd Fellow of Batavia lodge, never confined to home. Survived by two daughters, one son and two sisters. Funeral at M. E. Church Friday afternoon. burial Union Cemetery.
Rural mail boxes must be moved to one side of the road to avoid crossing traffic. The change, required to help rural carriers, aims to improve safety and efficiency. Noncompliance may result in mail service being withheld.
The Senior class presents A Strenuous Life on May 20 at the Opera House with 86 cent admission for adults and 26 cents for children under 12. Commencement May 26 with Dr Hall- Quest address and Weber's orchestra. Baccalaureate May 22 at 8 p.m. all events at the Opera House.
A draft deserter alert is posted at the Manchester post office seeking the capture of Wilbur Roush with a fifty dollar reward. Other towns listed include Clermont Milford Bethel New Richmond Moscow and names Robert Baker Joseph Carpenter Carry Hapton Clark Jackson William Roush under the same notice.
The annual field meet for Cleremont county drew a large crowd at the Boston fair ground last Saturday. Five schools Milford New Richmond Batavia Owensville and Williamsburg sent competitors in boys and girls events with Batavia leading in many track and field contests and securing pennants and ribbons. The event closed with remarks on forthcoming plans including an airplane ride feature and a future paving project.
Batavia high school plans a May 27 evening of two one act plays in the town hall. Lend Me Five Shillings, a 19th century English farce, stars Mr Golightly and Captain Phobbs among others. The Far Away Princess by Herman Suderman is set in Switzerland and features a meeting of a young poet and a princess. Music by the Batavia orchestra accompanies the event with tickets on sale May 5 at Nash's pharmacy.
The Deerfield W O No 61 expresses sympathy for the passing of sister Mrs. Margaret Marsh. Members affirm faith and comfort in the Lord, record the resolutions, and arrange to publish notices in county papers and send copies to the bereaved family.
Nellie May Fisher daughter of Clement and Ada Fisher born Cincinnati August 30 1902 died April 29 1921 at 18 years 7 months 2 days after a stoic illness in her Freshman year at high school She loved hymns and cheerful visitors and expressed readiness to go to heaven Her mother and siblings mourn her loss and a funeral was held with family friends attending. Louise Garbe and Edward Garbe are listed among Sunday guests at Rocky Fork.
A House bill by Congressman C. C. Kearns proposes a Grant memorial gold dollar to mark Ulysses S. Grant’s birth centenary. It authorizes up to 200000 coins to be minted at Philadelphia Mint and delivered to the Grant Memorial Centenary Association of Ohio, with dies destroyed after issue.
Melvin and Delbert Smith and wives of Sodipoariile spent Sunday with Henry Trost and family. Homer Butler and wife of Nicholsville spent Sunday with James Purdum’s Hill. O. E. and D. E. Ely visited H. D. Ely and Marti and family. Miss Callahan of Mt Holly and Wilbur Callahan of Norwood spent Sunday with friends. Wilmer Bennett and wife of Hamlet spent Saturday with Elmer Ely and James Conn family.

A county Farm Bureau survey indicates tobacco acreage may drop to about half of last year as cold weather harmed young plants and plants.

Lee Parker of Bethel a Clermont county teacher was attacked in Cincinnati weeks ago and remains in serious condition with no clue to his assailants. He had only 41 dollars on him when found and his mind is unclear making identification unlikely.
James H. Gregg entertained several young friends at his hilltop home Saturday afternoon. The gathering featured games and refreshments of ice cream and strawberries. All attendees enjoyed themselves and Gregg was remembered with tokens of friendship.
