Decoration Day Observed in Batavia Honor to Corbin and Grant
Batavia observed Decoration Day with bunting and flag ceremonies. The General Henry C. Corbin plaque, donated by Mrs. Julia Ashburn, was unveiled at the Armory by the American Legion, with Judge H. Rev. Smith preached the baccalaureate sermon at the M E church for the graduating class with Rev. McCullough and Wegner assisting. The Batavia orchestra and organist provided music. Mrs Massy sang two solos. Miss Rachel Perin of Hamlet won the Western College track meet standing high jump with a new Clermont record 8 feet 6 inches. Batavia Royal Arch Masons conferred the Royal Arch Degree on twelve candidates over two nights, followed by a banquet.

Mary A Barber born near Felicity Clermont County Ohio June 9 1838 died May 18 1921 aged 82 years 1 month 9 days She was the tenth of twelve children and joined the Presbyterian church at Moscow Ohio in youth She married George F Wise and had four children Ines Josephine died at age two Frank Warren Raymond Stanley and Maud Eva Ireton survive with a son in law two step sons grandchildren and many relatives She suffered blindness eight years but kept faith and patience Finally she passed to the Great Beyond to be with husband and family The verse speaks of death as dawn of eternity and the homegoing of a devoted mother

Batavia School Board Considers Janitor Bids and Library Plan
Batavia school board met with H. Moore J. K. Ashburn Albert Hein tici and Norman Burnet. The board named a library staff including Dr. McCulloch Eli Spidel and others under a law enabling school libraries. Bid awards for janitorships ranged from 65 to 80 dollars monthly with a disputed pick favoring Andy Burnet. Injunctions may protect public money as state aid of 3500 dollars arrived this spring and winter coal bids were requested. Graduates for the year were authorized for graduation legality.

More than 10 000 boys and girls from 80 counties have joined Boys and Girls Clubs. Local leaders supervise groups with regular meetings. The food and pig clubs see the heaviest enrollment, with growing interest in corn pig and sheep clubs. Potato growing shows marked gains in high counties and many members are using certified seed.
State Pike Contract Awarded For Clermont County Work
The contract for the State pike from Stonelick to the Brown county line was awarded last Friday and work will start soon. Much of the material is on hand and labor is plentiful, ensuring timely completion. This marks three State pikes under construction in Clermont county this summer along with other county projects.
