Map Shows S R 222 Relocation After Slide South of Batavia

A new SR 222 alignment is drawn on the map with a dotted line from near the N and W Rail road trestle to Erion Road. Ohio highways official Irvin Basler says plans are about 40 percent complete after a slide forced a change. The project, without federal aid, will need a public hearing and is estimated at 200000 dollars before bidding with a separate SR132 slide project.

County Youth Commission Counseling Starts In June

Clermont County commissioners formed a 10 member County Youth Commission with four former members and six new appointees. Reorganization is set for June 5 in the Annex Building Batavia. New training includes a University of Cincinnati program May 23 to 25 to prepare group counselors for delinquency prevention and special support groups.

Master Plumber Group Rejuvenates Clermont Association

The Clermont County Master Plumbers Association has been reorganized with new officers at Johnson Plumbing in Day Heights. Gene Anderson is president, Ralph Johnson is vice president, Paul Muhlberger is secretary, Mack Emerson is treasurer, and Matt Storch Sr. will handle publicity. The group aims to advance county plumbing efforts amid several sewer projects. A second note covers Tom Edmonds of The Cincinnati Gas & Electric discussing why Johnny Can’t Get Through College at Goshen Township Democratic Club on May 27.

Milford Teachers Stand Pat After Negotiations

Milford teachers canceled a planned professional day and remained in classrooms as negotiations continued. President David Yockey said no remarks would be made until talks finish. A meet of the Milford Education Association followed a vote to observe professional meetings instead of classes. The board had offered what teachers called the lowest feasible salary package, tied to an operating levy voters rejected on May 6.

County Sets Bridge Load Limits Across 13 Structures

County commissioners approved load limits on 13 bridges after inspection by Engineer Carl H. Rush and McGill & Smith. Limits range from three to ten tons, with a 10 mph speed limit on the East Fork Creek bridge and specific tonnage prescribed for each span on roads including Clermontville Laurel, Bristol, Belfast Owensville, Round Bottom, and Blue Sky Park areas.

Milford Jaycees Canoe Sprint and Jostling Match Planned

The Milford Jaycees announce a Frontier Days event Saturday forenoon June 1 starting about 9 o clock. Six sprint races run from Remington to the Milford American Legion hall back. categories include mixed couples family men’s open fledging and junior. A jostling finish line event and civic group race precede trophy awards.

Escape Charges Added In Grand Jury Report

Clermont County grand jury returned a two day list indicting escapees from the County Jail as still at large. Larry Jarvis and David L. Gregory face added escape charges plus other counts including assault larceny arson and breaking and entering. The panel also indicted four youths in a March 9 Owensville fire and multiple others on varied offenses. One case of aggravated assault against William Begley was ignored.

Felicity Sewer Plans Approved Ready For Bids

Ohio Board of Health approved general plans for a Felicity and Franklin Township sewer, enabling county to advertise bids. Federal cost support previously approved. Commission then sent petition for traffic signal at SR 32 and Old SR 74 to State Highway Division.

Public Hearing Set On Zoning Skating Rink

Memorial Day Parade Plans Announced

The BMOP Fire Dept Inc will hold the annual Memorial Day Parade in Amelia on May 30 at 8 a.m. The route runs from the west edge of the village to the school for a program at the Veterans Memorial Plaque. Participants include the Amelia High School band BMOP veterans honor guard and firing squad BMOP officers Mayor William Pomert and local clergymen.

Car Hits Hydrant Stuns Mt Carmel Area Water Stoppage

Joel Huff aged 22 of Glen Este was cited by the State Highway Patrol for speed in excess of conditions after his car left the road on Mt Carmel Tabasco Road. The vehicle struck a fire hydrant, sheared it, hit a utility pole guyline and overturned, briefly interrupting Mt Carmel water service. Huff suffered minor bruises.

Clermont County Board Plans New School for Mental Retardation

The Clermont County Board of Mental Retardation reported progress on a proposed school for the retarded. The Building Committee submitted a program narrative to state authorities seeking 75 percent funding, with a second draft prepared and sent for approval. A 500 capacity plan was scrapped due to federal limits of 200 and land/financing details with county commissioners proceeded.
