Volunteers To Sell Poppies On Poppy Day Plan

Volunteers from girls and young women’s organizations will aid the American Legion Auxiliary in distributing memorial poppies on May 24. Girl Scouts from Mt. Carmel Owensville Amelia and Batavia join the effort. Poppies, made by disabled veterans in Dayton Ohio, will honor the dead of both world wars and aid those still suffering from war service.

Batavia Readies Clean Up and Paint Up Parade Event

Batavia launches a citywide Clean Up and Paint Up campaign with a Friday parade starting 3 o clock from the high school. Participants include police fire department school band Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. A Thursday May 15 committee meeting is set in the courthouse conference room.

A Friday night meeting at 8 00 pm May 16 in the Armory Batavia will organize the Wet Veterans Republican Club of Clermont County. Poppy Day to Aid Disabled Vets in Local Villages

May 17 event by the V F W Auxiliary will sell Buddy Poppies in Batavia Bethel Milford and Owensville to raise funds for disabled veterans. Meantime two Bargers children Mattie 12 and Robert Lee eight months recover from spinal meningitis at Cincinnati General Hospital while two sisters died. Dr Gaskins reports water samples sent to state authorities for testing.

Clermont Sportsmen Set Early May Meeting Date

The Clermont Sportsmen plan a monthly gathering a week early with May 22 as the meeting date. Guest speaker is Mr. A E Doc Martz, noted sportsman and naturalist. New Richmond Weighs Two Hour Street Parking Rule

New Richmond considers a two hour parking limit on Front street between Sycamore and Union to improve shopper access. A central public lot is proposed with three businessmen offering space behind their stores totaling about 70 by 120 feet to be paved and marked. An ordinance draft is prepared by attorney Sterling H. Brown for village solicitor Lucian H. Dawson who has been ill.

Florence Metzger Appointed to Clermont Welfare Board

Clermont County commissioners appoint Florence Metzger of New Richmond to the Child Welfare Board for a five year term starting March 1, 1947. She fills the vacancy from the expiration of numerous listed terms including Margaret Wenzel and others.

Leases Prepared for Three More Vet Housing Units

Three additional emergency veteran housing units are being prepared in the county. Locations include near Felicity Amelia and Batavia with Amelia already chosen. Roy Link will occupy the Amelia house on his own lot paying $15 monthly rent.

Kerr Loses Water Damage Suit Over Wells and Cisterns

Robert Kerr sued William Parsons in Clermont County Common Pleas over a water shortage on property bought last year near Batavia Route 74. The jury awarded no damages after Kerr spent 886 on five wells and 700 on two cisterns for the 7 room house and 15 acres, and ruled for the defendant.
