Boy Scout Week Outlined for Clermont County

H C Aultman announces Boy Scout Week June 8 to 14 with six objectives to honor wartime Scout achievements, promote youth citizenship, engage churches and schools, recruit troops, enlist associate members, and fund first class councils. Good Citizen James Miller of Moscow Dies at 65

James Miller of Moscow died at his home on Monday May 12 in his 66th year. He leaves a widow and was a brother of Walter Miller of Felicity. A longtime wharfboat operator he built many friends and was a life long Republican who appeared at Republican gatherings for years after suffering a stroke several months earlier.

Pleasantly Surprised on Birthday at Batavia Home

Mrs Hiram Cade of Batavia was surprised Thursday evening as friends gathered to celebrate her birthday. Guests enjoyed luncheon and gifts were exchanged. The Batavia cream receiving station planned by French Bauer disappeared after a canvass found insufficient patronage.

The Batavia high school commencement will be held at city hall on Friday evening May 23. The program includes Field Artillery selection, invocation by Rev. Wilson, overture by the Carvers, class history by Frances Hulick, waltzes, poems by Margaret Nichols, solos by Kathleen Ashburn and Hawley, the address by Supt. Pliny A. Johnstep, a medley by Remick, diploma presentations, benediction by Rev. Wegner, and music by the Batavia Orchestra.

Mad dog in Batavia shot near railroad bridge

A mad hound dog prowled Batavia streets last Monday morning snapping at passersby and collapsing repeatedly. Will Johns shot the animal near the railroad bridge as residents kept their distance and avoided contact. The dog had green eyes and a wide open mouth with jaws set when killed.

Charles Moore and Miss Rose Brown of Batavia township wed at Batavia Catholic church last Wednesday at 8 16 in the morning. A reception followed at the groom’s parents home with 115 guests. They plan to reside in Dayton Ohio and begin their life together with many friends this community.

Paxton Family History Honored In Judge Alfred Paxton Tribute

Frank Davis Jr has been tendered and accepted an appointment as assistant Attorney General of the United States. He will oversee an important branch of the Justice Department. Davis rose rapidly since leaving Batavia six years ago for a responsible state office post and departs Cleveland law firm with his family for the national capital within days.

Sunday Morning Fire at Wise Man Home

Sunday morning fire alarm sounded as Sunday school ended at Monroe Wise man’s home. A spark in the attic ignited material, quickly put out by a garden hose. The house has had previous chimney trouble and was reportedly a minor loss.
