Death of New Richmond Woman Ruled Suicide

The death of 26 year old Dolvin Day of New Richmond was ruled a death by own action. Found in her father Joseph Boots basement with a shotgun nearby the body showed a facial wound. Sheriff Clyde Dericks coroner Allan B. Rapp and prosecutor Ray Bradford assisted in the investigation. Day had telephoned her grandmother earlier that day and appeared dependent.

Poe announce birth of son Edward Douglas

Mr and Mrs Vesper Poe of Mt Holly announce the birth of a son Edward Douglas on May 5 at Bethesda Hospital Cincinnati. The baby weighed seven pounds four ounces at birth.

Patrolman halts driver for unsafe passing in Batavia

Hubert Patton was fined ten dollars and costs by Mayor A C Munden of Batavia after being cited for passing on a carom and curve and crossing a yellow line by Patrolman Mark Trees of the State Highway Department. Recruiting Sgts Buckmaster Brunton Assigned to Georgetown

M-Sgt A D Buckmaster USAF is assigned to the Georgetown Ohio recruiting office with M-Sgt A N Brunton. Buckmaster, a newcomer, has a long family and military background from Kansas to Ohio and served in Italy during World War II. He holds multiple commendations and resides in Williamsburg with his wife and four sons. Stanley Curtis was fined $20 with costs suspended for damaging Melvin McClanahan’s car near Batavia on Feb 7.

Harney Case Set For May 26 In Clermont County

State v. Harney, postponed from December after a hung jury, will be heard May 26 by Judge Harry Britton in Clermont County Common Pleas Court. Claude Harney is charged with intent to kill.

The Court of Appeals met in Batavia and heard from two cases. Kerr vs Parsons concerns a water shortage on property transferred earlier. State vs Leggett involves a guilty finding for assault with intent to kill in a case where Mrs Leggett was charged with beating the child, son of her husband Carl Leggett.

New Richmond moves to raise and widen State Route 132 to stay open during floods. The plan, in cooperation with the State Highway Department, includes elevating Sycamore Street and condemning property along its path. Village petitions total six, cost approx 50000 dollars of village funds, with remaining costs borne by the state. The color change from yellow to green on prepaid tax receipts has sparked rumors that yellow stamps are non redeemable after June 1 1948. Only stamps issued under the retain sales tax are redeemable at 3 percent of face value. those delivered after May 1 1938 remain redeemable until law changes. Stonelick Dam Contract Finalized in Clermont County

Mountaineer Construction Company of Mansfield Ohio won the Stonelick Dam project in northern Clermont County with a bid of 169133.40 dollars. Groundwork expected to begin in June as planning includes a 200 to 300 acre lake and a large surrounding park with shelters trails and outdoor recreation facilities.
