Clermonters advised to file for canning sugar as ceiling on meats and most foods takes effect May 17. Officials push early berry and fruit canning applications through black and neighborhood leaders. Must provide family member names sugar card numbers last year's fruit cans and planned preserves plus other essential details.
The notice lists current ration stamp validity including Sugar Stamp 12 and Coffee Stamp 23 through late May, Blue Stamps G H J, Red stamps E F G with upcoming H and J dates, Shoes Stamp 17, and Tires inspection schedules. It also directs on fuel oil coupons 5 through September 30, office hours, and how to file complaints about ceiling prices with local Price Panel procedures.
Batavia Rotarians voted to ship two cases of cigarettes valued at over 50 dollars to service men abroad. The two shipments will target the Solomon Islands and North Africa, areas with Clermont County personnel.
Fred J. Kline died at his home near Batavia on Monday May 10. A requiem high mass was held at Holy Trinity church on Wednesday morning May 12. Burial followed at Milford cemetery. Besides his widow Lollie Burgett Kline, he leaves son Frederick Jr. as survivor.
The First District Clermont County Council of Religious Education will meet at Goshen Methodist church on May 23 at 8 00 PM. Bring a delegation from your church school for a program featuring a good speaker and music.
Word reached this week that M. H. Burkholder former Milford school superintendent now London Ohio school superintendent was granted a leave of absence for the duration to enter the service. He received a commission as Lieutenant senior grade in the United States Naval Reserves and reported for duty in New York City on May 10. He will be an instructor in the Naval College Training program and will be stationed temporarily at Columbia University where he graduated in 1934.
Jackson Ohio May 11 1500 pounds of seed potatoes planted in the high school victory garden along with 3000 tomato plants and other vegetables for the ten acre plot. Home economics will run a canning program when crops mature and pupil cooperation previously provided complete luncheons at ten cents for hundreds of needy pupils.
Glenn Skidmore formerly of Newtonsville has completed training at the radio air force school in Sioux Falls South Dakota marking another milestone in his military service.
At Fort Benjamin Harrison and nearby bases, several recruits receive basic training and, after graduation, may advance to petty officer ratings. Clyde A Boys arrives for naval basic training. Richard C Jamieson transfers to Missouri and awaits assignment. Alvin Earl Beard enrolls in Machinist’s Mates school. Robt. W Liston completes Ordinance School and serves at San Diego. Clifford G Bennett earns aviation Machinist’s Mate third class at Navy Pier and awaits carrier or base duty.
The Clermont County Teachers Association met for its regular semi annual session Tuesday evening in Cranston Memorial church auditorium. The program began at 5:00 with group singing O E A report L G House Goshen Rural School talk War time Conservation Ollie E Fink State Department of Education. Dinner followed at 6 30 in church dining room. Musical numbers by New Richmond school and a address by Albert H Crombie.
Friends note the death of Harry Studer at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in St. Petersburg Florida on April 23. The Spanish War veteran was 66 and survived by his widow Mrs Mertie Studer and two nephews Eldon Studer Batavia and Clifford Studer Cincinnati.
Albert Tad Brown 49 proprietor of Balzhiser and Brown Milford meat firm died April 30 at his home from a heart attack. Funeral held May 3 at 2 30 p.m. at 111 Terrace Place Terrace Park with Rev John R Yungbhit. interment Greenlawn Cemetery Milford. Survived by widow Emma Deter Brown and son William F Brown of San Antonio plus three brothers and three sisters. A WWI veteran and American Legion member, he built the family business after partner Balzhiser died about 12 years ago.
The Altar Society of Holy Trinity Church Batavia elected officers in April. New officers are President Elizabeth Freulker Secretary Walter Hage lage Treasurer Charles Nussbaum. Members will receive Holy Communion at 8:00 mass on Sunday May 16 and the group will install officers at the May 18 meeting at 8:00 p.m. All members are invited.
Funeral services were held for Miss Mary Bruckner, 81, at St Andrews Church Milford with Rev. E J Creager officiating. She died in Our Lady of Mercy Hospital Mariemont after a January 19 hip fracture and had lived with her sister Mrs Jos Brigel for 16 years. Survived by sister and two brothers Jacob and Matthew Brueckner of Cincinnati. Monroe funeral home Milford directed arrangements.
The Amelia High School senior class will present Good Night Ladies in the school auditorium at 8:30 Wednesday night May 12. Admission is 30 cents with no reservations. Baccalaureate is May 16 and commencement May 21 at 8:30, both in the auditorium with 30 cent admissions and no reservations.
The Mt Carmel Glen Este school hosted its first 4 H Club meeting on April 21. Officers elected for the year include Betty Conover as president Ruth Cat as vice president Margaret Cliff as secretary Geraldine Lam mrish as treasurer and news reporter Joanna Barg as recreation leader. The club name chosen is The Mt Carmel Victory Workers.
George E. McClellan announces starting Monday May 10 that top prices for about half the household food items will be posted in Cincinnati area stores. The action, part of a nationwide drive, sets maximum prices per item and requires clear display on the product or shelf. Highlights include area ceilings for Ohio counties Hamilton Butler Warren Clermont Brown and Kentucky counties Kenton Campbell Boone with inspectors checking compliance and reductions possible where ceilings are exceeded.
John Baker announces a special committee on absenteeism under the Cincinnati Area War Manpower Committee. Members include leaders from labor and industry such as John Hurst A. F. L. Harry Proctor Building Trades A. F. L. Al Whitehouse C I O District 25 Harry Haberbear War Labor Division Morris Edwards Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Phil Cone Crosley and others. Chairman Hudson Biery says program will rely on labor and management recommendations and avoid legal penalties, focusing on patriotic appeal and plant conditions.
