The GOP presents a balanced lineup of veterans and newcomers led by Governor candidate John W. Bricker and Lieutenant Governor Paul M. Herbert. The full slate includes Earl Griffith as Secretary of State and James W. Walker as Prosecuting Attorney among others.
Work on the sanitary sewer on North street Batavia began Tuesday morning. The project will intersect the Water street sewer near the De camp residence. The storm sewer from Ashburn's run on Fifth street to Sixth and North street is nearly finished, spanning three blocks.
Beech Forest Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at Mrs. E. S. Rush Bata via home last Wednesday. Officers elected for the coming year include Regent Nellie Lytle, Vice Regent Addie Frazier, Recording Secretary Anne Kramer, Corresponding Secretary Edna Nichols, Treasurer Bessie Musgrove, Historian Bertha Rush, Registrar Achie Hulick, and Chaplain Allie Rowan.
Mrs Caldwell hosts Batavia Woman's Club on Saturday presenting Alaskan fisheries to the reindeer industry. Mrs Jamieson performs Songs of the Yukon. Mrs Horn, Mrs Pearson, and Orange Blossoms and Snow Peaks are slated to attend.
Pierce township PTA schedules a May 28 8pm meeting at the school house with a pew member drive and lunch. Batavia PTA met May 14 at the school house with officers elected for next year and committees formed for a June 14 lawn fete and a cold plate supper. A dance and card party is planned for May 28 at the school auditorium inviting all residents.
A hearing will be held in Batavia probate court on June 38 at 1 p m to consider adding the Batavia Back Run Road to the State Highway System. Walter Willard district engineer will lead the proceedings. The four mile section from the Ohio Pike to Main and Water streets would join the state system if approved.
Batavia Garden Club hosts a Spring Flower Show at Presbyterian Chapel on May 21 from 3 to 9 PM. Only club members may exhibit with classes for Columbine Delphinium Peony Lily Poppy Pyrethrum Lupinus Tulip Lilac Iris and various artistic arrangements. Entries accepted 9:00 to 11:30 AM. all flowers must be exhibitor grown and kept in milk bottles.
The successful Republican candidates from the May 12 Primary thank friends and supporters for valuable help in the campaign for nomination. Names include John Hayden State Representative Manly A Hill County Commissioner Noah Powers County Commissioner James W Walker Prosecuting Attorney Edgar W Anstaett Clerk of Courts George Donovan Sheriff Robert Roberts Recorder D C DeFosset Treasurer Carl H Rush Engineer E R Beck Coroner.
In the Sixth District primary, veteran James G. Polk and Emory F. Smith, Scioto County Prosecuting Attorney, clinched party nominations. County tallies show Polk and Smith advancing over Dick Smith, Adam Frick, and others with results incomplete in Scioto and Pike.
The Withamsville PTA will meet Monday night June 1 to install new officers under Hamilton County PTA President Mrs. William Lai. Guest speaker will be Mr. Judd of Forestville and Batavia Male quartet will provide the evening’s musical entertainment.
Purdue figures E B Baugh Noble Kizer and W H Palmer will speak at the 4 H Club Leaders and Officers Conference at Owensville Schoolhouse on Wednesday May 27. Morning sessions will split officers for group discussions on duties and improvements. A picnic lunch follows with a program and motion pictures to highlight recreation.
The fifty fifth annual Batavia high school commencement will be Friday night at Town Hall starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Nash's Pharmacy with plenty of seats. The program features invocation by Charles Miller welcome by William Chandler violin solo Edward Walter accomplishments of the school year medals and awards valedictory by Audrey Holly panel discussion led by Helen Larkin and others, songs by the senior chorus, drawings by Edward Sedgwick diplomas and certificates presented, benediction by Anna Andres.
Two new members will join the Republican Central Committee at its upcoming organizing meeting. John Dalchow of Union Township and Leonard LaRoe of Ohio Township were unopposed for the open posts. Existing members listed include Batavia Joe Brock Franklin Bruce Daughters Goshen Ray Irwin and others.
Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion schedules Memorial Day observances at Stonelick Owensville St Louis Amphitheatre and Mt Moriah cemeteries with Rev Albert Von Hagel delivering the St Louis address. A second group visits Old Bethel Amelia cemeteries and Mt Moriah. Batavia Union cemetery holds 2 p.m. service with Judge Robert Gorman as speaker. Parade from Armory at 1 30 led by Marshall Kenneth Hillen, with ex soldiers drum and bugle corps and Boy Scouts. O N G Company supplies cemetery firing squads. A local comment questions unemployment and Roosevelt.
The Democratic Central Committee organized Monday night with the same officers except secretary Louis M. Buerkle, who was replaced by Orville Halbisch. Officers include Frank White as chairman Eden Myers as vice chairman and J W Waggal as treasurer. New members Owen Oldham Chas Whitmer and A T Gates joined unopposed across the districts.

Baccalaureate service will be held Sunday at the M E Church with Rev C A Gibson delivering the address. Commencement exercises follow Friday May 29 at 8 pm in the township hall with a program including song, salutatory by Helen Penny, class history, prophecy, music, diplomas presented by Supt R G Little, and benediction by Rev C J Barkley.
Lester G. Hause longtime Goshen High School principal is named superintendent succeeding Frank B. Hoggatt who resigned to lead Clermont County Schools. Hause a Wilmington College graduate has pursued extensive postgraduate study at the University of Cincinnati.
Results of the scholarship test at Miami University were released. Honors listed include Harry Lampe Owensville ranked first in the Miami district and second in the State in Plane Geometry, Pauline Lanham Felicity second in district and ninth nationally in 12th Year English, and several others with district rankings and state honorable mentions in American History Latin and English across Milford Batavia Amelia Moscow Owensville and Bethel schools.
State Eighth Grade Test taken April 24 shows Clermont County median 109 from 400 points, six points above the state median. Top ten county medians include Mt. Carmel 131 and Batavia Village 126, with 126+ placing students in the upper quarter for Honor able Mention Certificates.
The Clermont County Pomona Grange sponsors a Memorial Service at Bethel School Auditorium Sunday afternoon May 81st at two o clock. All Granges in the county will be represented and the public is invited. Joseph Fichter Ohio State Grange lecturer will deliver the principal address. About 75 Grangers are taking part and the committee reports good progress.
