Burg Bridge Dedication Honors Civil War Legacy

Williamsburg dedicated a new 65000 bridge at the site of a burned Morgan covered bridge. About 1500 residents attended last Friday May 15 with guests including three women who witnessed the burning. Daughters of the American Revolution unveiled a tablet for General William Lytle. Local officials spoke as schoolchildren and Civil War veteran Rev J H Sentman attended.

Monon Cherry Sentenced After Jail Escape Conviction

Monon Lee Cherry who escaped from Clermont County jail in July 1932 was convicted on a charge of receiving stolen goods by a jury in common pleas court after a three day trial. Judge Charles G. White sentenced him to one to seven years in the Ohio Penitentiary, and he was taken to Columbus Friday to begin serving.

East Hill Farm Woman's Club May Meeting Held at Mrs Buerkle

The East Hill Farm Woman's Club met at Mrs Vera Buerkle s home with 18 members attending and singing the Club s Ode. Papers were read by several members and a contest prize was won by Mrs Stella Moore. A guest day is set for June 4 at Mrs Moore s home with changes noted involving Mrs Binkley. The Sunday school convention at Milford M E church runs June 3 and 4 with five 2 pm sessions on Wednesday June 8. Amelia Track Team Wins Local Field and Track Meet

The Amelia six grade schools finished first to sixth in a Saturday event at Amelia with Mt Carmel Locust Corner Nicholsville Glen Este and Lindale following. Stanley Anstaett supervised the meet and the Lang brothers led Amelia to victory.

Batavia High Announces Senior Activities Schedule

Batavia high school lists senior events led by superintendent P K Moore. Baccalaureate is Sunday May 17 at Batavia United Brethren Church with Rev Samuel Huecker speaking. Saturday announced engagement of Jeannette Belle Nichols to Dwight Wesley Martin of Cincinnati. Nichols, a Vassar graduate and Cincinnati College of Law alumna, works at Nichols Merrill Wood Marx and Ginter. Martin, Ohio Wesleyan and Cincinnati Law graduate, Phi Beta Kappa, is with Dinsmore Shohl Sawyer and Dinsmore. Parents reside in Portsmouth Ohio. wedding likely in September at Batavia.

Amelia Seniors To Present Play Pull of Youth

The Amelia High School senior class will stage a three act play titled Pull of Youth on Friday night May 22 at 8 00. Baccalaureate services are set for Sunday night May 24 in the school auditorium and Commencement occurs Wednesday night May 27 with Dr Walter Collins president of Wilmington College as speaker. Clermont primary yields close races in county slate

Clermont County voters cast just over 5000 ballots in a mild primary. Manly Hill and Noah Powers held strong leads for Democratic commissioner slots with 51 of 53 precincts reporting. Anstrett defeated Meinken for clerk of courts. Miller won State Senator. Donovan named sheriff. Roberts led for Recorder. DeFosset ahead for treasurer. Bricker and Herbert led GOP tickets. Nichols carried county for State Senator. Sixth District races split GOP and Democratic preferences.

WPA Is Slated For Continuance

A bulletin from Dr. Carl Watson WPA administrator in Ohio states WPA will continue for one more year from July 1, 1936. Projects using common labor will be given preference, with local sponsors funding more, and readiness to cover skilled labor needs.

Exchange Program Will Be Presented by Monroe Grange

Monroe Grange met in regular session Friday evening May 7 with a touching Mother's Day program by Juniors and Subordinates. Mrs. Paul H. Mauz of Chicago spoke on Mexico. May 15 an exchange program will be given at Felicity and May 17 the Grange attends Rural Life service at Monroe Presbyterian Church at 2 30 pm with Rev. Milo Bevan delivering the sermon. New Batavia Bethel Consolidated School District Formed

Clermont County School Board appoints two new districts replacing four defunct boards. Batavia Consolidated District includes Speidel Wood Alrey Hulick Bauer. Bethel Consolidated District includes Wymer Norris Patton Ryan Mosbacker. All township schools come under single jurisdiction.

To Demonstrate Canning Methods At Batavia Church

A county wide vegetable canning demonstration will be held at the U B Church in Batavia on Thursday afternoon May 28 at 1 30 p m. Sponsored by the County Agricultural Agent it is part of a series of Home Economics meetings. Guest specialist Mrs Zollers is a Miami University Home Economics graduate and former critic teacher. She participated in the WWI canning campaign and has since worked with home demonstration programs. Clermont housewives will benefit and all ladies are welcome to attend.
