The county allotted 25 000 for aid to dependent children in 1955 but would need about 40 000 this year under current trends, with no state or federal assistance. The article links population growth and rise in child abandonment cases to increased caseloads, noting 135 dependents as of Wednesday and a Judge Britton case involving Orville Bilby, father of five, sentenced for probation violation and non support.
