Merino Sheep Loss Prompts $50 Reward in Clermont Co

G W Porter of the H S Pogue Co Cincinnati offered a $50 reward through Sheriff Gar land G Auxier for information leading to the arrest and conviction of thieves who raided his farm on Ten Mile road ten days ago. Porter awaited word today about the case and the livestock loss.

Batavia Girl Scout Troop Formed With 26 Tenderfoot Members

Batavia forms Girl Scout Troop No. 1 with 26 girls who have passed Tenderfoot tests. Sponsored by Batavia PTA, American Legion Auxiliary, Rotary Club, and Batavia Woman's Club. Clermont county farmers may insure their 1939 wheat crop against weather hazards and losses. Applications are at the County Agricultural Adjustment Administration office. Rates depend on county yields and farm history. premiums may be paid in wheat from the 1938 crop or money.

Amelia High School Alumni Reunion Set for May 27

The 1988 Amelia High School Alumni reunion is planned for Friday evening May 27 in the Amelia High School auditorium. Activities include dancing and card playing from 8:80 to 1:00 with lunch and a business meeting at 4:00. Admission is 50 cents per person. Luther Taylor serves as president.

Ritter Yeoman Lead in Clermont Dairy Herd Association

In Clermont Division of the Clermont Hamilton Dairy Herd Improvement Association Geo Ritter of Hills Station led with 21 cattle averaging 923 pounds of milk and 87 pounds of fat per cow in April. Fred Yeoman of Goshen led 5 to 15 cow class with 10 cattle averaging 828 pounds of milk and 36.7 pounds of fat. The top cow in April produced 1698 pounds of milk and 79.8 pounds of fat, and the association comprises 26 herds totaling 447 cattle.

Batavia Council Bans Fireworks and Plans Street Widening

Batavia Village Council in regular session last week passed a resolution prohibiting sale and use of fireworks on village highways streets and alleys. The measure allows residents to light purchased fireworks on private property. The council also decided to widen a street to 60 feet between 2nd and 4th streets, requiring tree removal west of 2nd Street and east of 4th Street to Knauer Avenue while preserving trees elsewhere.

Car Collision Wrecks Two Autos Near Owensville

Mrs. Lou Towler of Saur Avenue Cincinnati and five others were injured when their auto collided with Frank Snell of Blue Ash near Owensville on Route 50 Saturday at 9 16 PM en route to Cumberland for a funeral. Lund of Montgomery suffered a broken nose one child was knocked down and another had minor injuries. Dr Allan B Rapp of Owenvsville gave first aid. Both cars were out of use. Slippery roads blamed.

Milk Producers Association meeting reviews milk market

The Milk Producers' Association gathered Friday night in the courthouse with a large turnout. President C Woodward of Loveland and speaker Price Osborn of Cincinnati discussed milk production and the Federal Market Report. Bottled milk prices ranged from 2.75 to 6.18 per 100 pounds. A State University representative will speak on June 10 as producers consider new organization to advance results.

Mrs Clara Andres in Wreck Seeks Sixth District Congress

Mrs Clara Andres of Waverly running for Congress in the Sixth District was in an auto accident Sunday afternoon on Route 50 above Owensville. Her husband Dr R M Andree was with her. The car went into a ditch and turned over twice but neither suffered serious injuries.

The Batavia Chapter Order of the Eastern Star held a major annual inspection with Mrs Gladys Spriggs Deputy Grand Matron of the 22nd District visiting and praising the work. John W Rapp was initiated and several visiting chapters attended, followed by a luncheon.

Early Tobacco Planting Report From East Fork Bottoms

On May 14 the first tobacco set occurred in the East Fork bottoms. Carl Eckert and Clyde Anstaett each planted one acre. James Shannon reports 13000 tomato plants lost to frost last week. John Pomert lost tomato, sweet potato and egg plants. Many others suffered small losses.

The Field and Track Meet scheduled for May 14 at Amelia school grounds has been postponed to May 21 due to bad weather. If conditions allow, the meet will be held on the new date.

Griffith Found Guilty of Assault with Intent to Kill

In Clermont county Ohio a two day trial ended with Edward Griffith found guilty of assault with intent to kill. The jury foreman was B C Meyer. The court indicated a sentence of 15 years to the penitentiary. The attack on Griffith's wife Isabelle December 12 left her hospital bound for months. Griffith, aged 50 and deaf, was led away after verdict by Deputy Sheriff Tom Brooks.

Reds Set Night Return Home May 27 At Crosley Field

Cincinnati reports the Reds will play their first night game of the season on Friday May 27 at Crosley Field against St Louis Gashouse Gang as part of a 15 day road swing. Paul Derringer has pitched well and Lefty Lee Grissom could rejoin the rotation.
