Curtain rises for Merchant of Venice Up-to-Date in Batavia

Batavia High School stages Merchant of Venice Up-to-Date tomorrow evening at town hall. Superintendent Oppitz and staff led careful preparation with juniors and seniors in lead roles. The program features multiple acts and musical selections including marches, waltzes, and a plantation song interlude, followed by diplomas awarded by the Batavia Board of Education.

Mrs Clarissa Swing Kizer Dies in Emporia

Clarissa Swing Kizer died yesterday at her daughter Mrs Frank McCain’s home where she had lived thirty years. Born November 18 1815 in Clermont County Ohio she married George Swing in 1840? and had four children. She later married Jacob Kizer in 1886. Funeral in Emporia First Baptist, body taken to Milford for interment in Greenlawn cemetery beside family lot.

Batavia Juniors Defeat Amelia Juniors 17 to 5

At Batavia ball park Friday afternoon the Batavia Juniors beat the Amelia Juniors by 17 to 5 with Batavia mounting strong offense. Next Friday a game between the Northern Clermont Stars and Bethel ball team is set for 2 30 weather permitting with Irwin pitching for the Stars and Armour for Bethel.

Baccalaureate Sermon Honors Batavia School Graduates

Rev. E Burdgall delivered the 1910 Batavia School graduation baccalaureate sermon at the Methodist church. He stressed harmony of education and religious training and urged embracing the Great Teacher’s teachings to develop mind and body for a high, desirable life. Music accompanied the service, enhancing the uplifting address for graduates and attendees.

Expert Rifleman Medal Earned by Ohio Guard Sergeant

Sergeant Jéens Jordan of Company K, First Regiment Ohio National Guard, won an expert rifleman medal awarded in Batavia. His Camp Perry scores and prior expert marksman contests earned the honor, making him one of the few Southern Ohio Guardsmen to win a medal.

Clermont Primary Yields Light Turnout in Clermont County

Tuesday's primary produced light voting across Clermont County due to heavy rain. Early results show Taylor 540, Glevenger 490, Gilchrist 142 for congressman.
