The Annual Flag Day Luncheon occurs Friday June 13 at Heath Restaurant Mt. Carmel at 1130 AM. Prime rib steak luncheon costs 6 dollars with featured speaker James E Betts Republican U S Senate candidate. Tickets from club members or reservations via Sue J Fisher or Christine McBride. deadline June 9.
The Clermont County Humane Society hosts a flea market at Maple Grove Park on May 17 with a flea sale at 10 a.m. and an auction at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served. Donations are needed and can be dropped off May 16 or arranged for pickup by calling Ruth Mary Sullivan, Jessie Naglich, Audrey Jones, or Donna Fultz.
The 11th annual Union Township Kiwanis Charity Horse Show will be May 24-25 at the Clermont County showgrounds on SR 222 Batavia. English competition starts 9 a.m. Saturday Western on Sunday 10 a.m. Bob Shreve appears Sunday 2-6 p.m. Door prizes Sunday afternoon include grand prize a five night Delta Queen trip for two. Admission is $1 with all proceeds to community projects.
The Clermont County Chamber of Commerce sponsors a May 21 forum at 7 30 p m in the Clermont College auditorium for county residents to hear five commissioner candidates speak on leadership growth incentives problems and priorities Incumbent and nonincumbent candidates will answer five questions Dan Dell chairman of the chamber education committee will moderate An informal session after the event allows attendees to talk with the candidates.
Commissioners interviewed a female candidate for county administrator last Tuesday afternoon. Robert Croswell would not reveal the applicant’s name and said only one interview had occurred with Harold Bissantz urging the interview. All three commissioners attended. Former administrator Harry Reed resigned March 5 after five months. he followed Bruce Henry, who left in May 1979 after four years. Croswell, wary of political influence, would not estimate when a new administrator would be chosen and warned against selecting an unqualified person. Salary stated to exceed $20,000.
Clermont County officials led by Commissioner Jerome Wiesenhahn identified East Fork Lake water treatment plant as top priority for the 1981 county work program and outlined follow ups on jail juvenile detention hall law enforcement and housing projects. OVRDC executives toured sites with county leaders and the county’s 1981 budget request includes matching funds of 7 658 with eight cents per capita based on 1970 figures. Grants come from EDA and ARC programs.
Cler monty commissioners heard Pam Parker of the Youth Services Bureau propose a council to oversee youth services. The board would have 15 to 21 members and oversee all youth activities, with funding asks of 200 dollars for start up. No office space would be needed in year one.
Clermont County 648 Board of Mental Health approves a .5 mill levy for ten years to fund local mental health and retardation services. The plan prioritizes a group home for aftercare, a day treatment program for preschoolers, and ongoing therapies, with several positions and a grants planner funded first.
