Village mulls earnings tax amendment and recalls

Williamsburg officials anticipate lower revenue if the earnings tax amendment goes to November voters. Petitions circulate to place the measure on the general election ballot. Ms Foxx was terminated May 3 and recalled after attorney David Burgess warned of possible discrimination action. A patrolman who resigned will not be rehired as Maham worries about maintaining essential services under a new mayor.

Glider firm must move trailer over zoning issues

Ultralights must remove a leased trailer from Apple Road property after residents complained at a trustees meeting. Gregg said a zoning permit was not found and he contacted attorney Chris Rosenhoffer to verify the situation. Trustee Moore noted uncertainty about fines for operating without a permit. Drainage problems on Judd Road were also discussed.

Owensville council rejects probationary officer hire

David Simpson, a 27 year old Bethel resident and former part time Owensville policeman, claims the village council unfairly rejected his permanent hire despite a positive recommendation. At the May 3 meeting the council voted 4 to 2 after an executive session, with Mayor Junior Midgley criticized by Simpson for several remarks about his duties in directing the fire department and handling paperwork. Simpson cited delays in documenting whereabouts and noted he investigated two deaths, one on village sidewalks, within tight time frames.

Kids on the Block puppet show to tour Eastgate Mall

Eastgate-Mental Health Association sponsors The Kids on the Block at Eastgate Mall center court on Saturday May 15 with shows at 11 am 1 pm and 3 pm. The event promotes awareness of mental health and disability through puppets and offers literature on local services.

Grand jury indicts 21 in Clermont County

Clermont County Grand Jury met May 5 indicting 21 people. Donald Niblick, 23, charged with arson over a March 22 Milford fire at Frazier Williams dealership. Kimberly Dickten, 24, indicted for complicity to drug trafficking. Russell Dickten, 82, charged with marijuana trafficking. Donald Bauer, 22, accused of breaking and entering Clermont County Courthouse on April 12.

Time limit set on 'concerned citizens' speech

Time limit was imposed on the Concerned Citizens during a weekly board meeting as Tom McKinney spoke. The group seeks an investigation of Clermont County Children’s Services, with parents sharing discontent and County Prosecutor Pattison saying no criminal basis exists. He advised returning to juvenile court if facts support claims.

Summer recreation for kids offered across county

County offers five day summer programs for Kindergarten to sixth grade starting June 21 through July 30. Activities include baseball basketball volleyball water fun crafts and field trips with no program fee except trip admissions. Sites include Pattison Park and Bethel areas.
