Dennis W. Luithle a Glen Este High School sophomore won the Clermont County flag design contest. The winning design will be announced at 8 p.m. Friday during a Historical Society meeting at Batavia High School. The event includes a Civil War drum concert by the Lyle Faulkner Fife and Drum Corps and performances by Batavia PTA Mothersingers and Batavia Girl Scout Troop 1486. Dennis is the son of Charles and (name unreadable) Laithle of Glen Este Williamsville Road. He also shows woodworking talent with items like a lamp and a coffee table.

GLEN ESTE The Union Township trustees will hire a court stenographer for the May 19 public hearing on incorporation at Mt Carmel Glen Este Elementary School. Emc Durbin vice of the board will chair the hearing with Thomas Clepper and Peter Heckter also present. The hearing will verify that a petition and map of the proposed incorporation area covering all of Union Township and part of Pierce Township is correct. The trustees report township expenditures of 2126 with amounts in Cemetery fund 554 road fund 447 gas fund 130 and general fund 994.

Reverend Lach Named Local Delegate to Poverty Action Unit

Clermont County seeks bids on pipe and dump truck
The Clermont County Commissioners will accept bids until 10 am June 1 for metal pipe and other road materials and for a county highway department dump truck. They will also name a representative to the Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky Air Pollution Survey technical committee continuing from March 30 for a year. May is declared Clean Up Paint Up month by the Clermont County Trustees and Clerk’s Association.

Flannery and Esz of Mt. Carmel won the general contract for a $250,000 Frisch's Restaurant in Mt. Carmel. Ground was broken on Monday with completion expected in late August. Amelia Village OKs Annexation Feasibility Study
Amelia village council on Monday night unanimously approved a committee to study annexation that could expand the village fivefold. Batavia council deadlocked three to three on a plan by County Engineer Carl H Rush to fix a water problem on Charles St with tile and catch basins at an estimated 450. They will inspect the site before a new vote. A waste collection permit request by Wendell Garrison was denied. The police were instructed to enforce the waste-collection permit ordinance. A 550 foot sidewalk on Rt 132 to Diana Ave cost 500, with residents paying 250. Fire Chief Vic Billingsley can inspect all businesses and record heating and electrical details for emergencies.
