Clermont County Day at Coney Island amid fireworks fright

The Clermont County Day program at Coney Island Sunday will feature a fireworks display, with crowds expected afternoon and evening. Insurance concerns arise after reports that fireworks frightened chickens to death during past shows. The event is led by Frank Koester, now in charge of special events at Coney. Also noted: mortgage burning at Amelia Methodist parsonage and remarks by Dr. George B. Parkin. Burial notice for Walter B. Clarke, 85, the famed Clermont County figure known as Ye Olde Clermont County home Peddler, with funeral by Rev. Gerald Durre.

Coney to Open for Courier Day May 15 at Clermont

Clermont Courier readers can enjoy half price ride tickets at Coney Island from Wildcat to pony track on Sunday May 15. Coupons appear on Page 5 and are required for the reduced rate with free admission. Extra coupons are available at the Courier office. A post war fireworks display over Lake Como will conclude the day at 9 p.m. and is free.

Miss Ruth Lewis Chosen For Milford May Festival Queen

Batavia resident Miss Ruth Lewis was chosen by the local American Legion Post as a candidate for Queen of the May Festival in Milford. The festival runs May 18 to May 21 at Riverside Park, with candidates riding in the parade and an impartial panel selecting the queen by charm beauty and personality. Proceeds fund a new Legion home for the Milford Post.

Williams Corner Farmer Hangs Self

Funeral services were held for W. A. Vogt, 30, a farmer from near Williams Corner, at Craver Funeral Home in Milford. Vogt was found hanging from a barn rafter Monday. burial followed at Green Lawn Cemetery, Milford. He is survived by his mother, father, four sisters and two brothers.

High School Driving Class In Batavia Students Training Progress

Batavia High hosts a student driver education class with 44 juniors and seniors nearing license eligibility. Edmund, the instructor, recently completed a University of Cincinnati training course, while A H Lewis of Lewis Motor Sales provides the Ford car used for instruction.

Milford School Sets June 1 End Of Year Events

Milford School closes the year with events. The high school will graduate 51 students on May 24 with Dr. E E Lewis of Ohio State University as commencement speaker. The baccalaureate will be given by Rev. E R Rector May 22. Junior senior banquet is this Thursday and grade school graduation is May 17 with J W Evans from Owensville to speak. The senior play was recently performed to a full auditorium.

The Churches of Christ in Clermont County schedule a Youth Rally on Friday May 13 at 8 00 p m in the Batavia Armory. Eugene Houpt of Lexington Ind will speak. Gerald Durrée is pastor of the church. All are invited to attend.

Amelia High School juniors and seniors held a reception and dance at the D X Ranch near Amelia. A music festival at 8:00 p m in the school auditorium will include all grades. Clermont County Baseball League Week Two Recap

The 1949 Clermont County Baseball League enters week two with all twelve teams active. Mt. Carmel led early but fell 10 to 8 to Loveland, while Owensville edged Daly's Tavern 11 to 0. Amelia improved to 2 0 by beating New Richmond 7 to 3, Bethel downed Salt Air 8 to 4, Williamsburg lost 11 to 4 at Branchester, and Goshen crushed Batavia 10 to 1.

Nine Year Old Girl Dies After Bicycle Car Crash

Phyllis Ann Scott nine died after a bicycle collided with a car driven by Frank Marshall of Newtonsville Tuesday evening at Williams Corner. She never regained consciousness at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital Mariemont. Her brother rode with her to hospital. no physician was called. Her father Leonard Scott works for Cincinnati Gas and Electric in Milford.

County Wide Fire Protection Plan Meeting

Clermont County fire chiefs or representatives will meet the Clermont County Agricultural Council at the old County Building in Batavia on Monday May 16 at 8 30 p m to discuss forming a county wide fire protection system. Plans will cover permanent dwelling identification extending service beyond township lines equipment lists for emergencies and a follow up system.

New Ball Park Opens Friday at Oasis on Route 125

On Friday May 20 a new lighted ball field named Seller's Field opens at the Oasis near Amelia Route 125. It becomes home to the M. A. C. Club of the Buckeye Night League and will host Friday night games and Tuesday exhibition matches with other leagues.

Hayden Cleared And Retained By Moscow Board

Wayne Hayden, a Moscow school teacher and coach, was cleared of inefficiency charges and given a five year contract to resume duties. He demanded charges be specified at a hearing held at the Batavia Court House with attorney Russell Speidel and adviser Ben West present.

Joe Wolfe of Main Street Batavia broke his arm last Saturday while playing on a swinging bar at Batavia school grounds. The injury occurred during outdoor recreation and local authorities were notified.
