Fifteen years of CCC assisted conservation transformed a 10 acre tract on Route 222 near Batavia into a reforested hillside. Black locust gullies and red pine cover reduced erosion, bluegrass healing gullies, and pine needle cover now protects water supply. The Lytle land is a State Game Refuge.

A Batavia parents group formed to start a kindergarten for pre school children. Officers include Mrs. Clarke Gregg as chairwoman and Mrs. Alfred Hunter Jr. as secretary. So far $500 in subscriptions with a goal of $1,500 to qualify for state aid. A room at Batavia school is offered and enrollment targets 40 children before January 1, 1950.

Druggist Harmon Cover Takes Helm at Covington Pharmacy
Former Batavia resident Harmon Cover, son of Mrs. Ella Cover and the late N G Cover, assumed management of Wiechelman Pharmacy at Fifth and Madison in Covington Kentucky. Milford Insurance Official Edgar Sanford Dies at 64
Edgar Sanford treasurer of Western and Southern Life Insurance died suddenly in his Milford home at 34 Laurel Avenue aged 64. A longtime Milford resident, he served as Milford Building Loan and Savings director and Milford Planning Commission chairman. He had worked for the insurance company since 1902 and held roles as vice president and director. Services were held at Craver Funeral Home with burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. he is survived by his wife Laura Neske Sanford, two daughters Elizabeth Mansfield and Mary Louise Early, four grandchildren.

Passenger Killed In Collision On Route 74 Saturday Night
A two-vehicle crash on Route 74 near Afton Saturday night left John Lay 50, of Williams burg, dead. Driver David Hofer 38, Williamsburg, was bound over to the Clermont grand jury on charges of operating under the influence and without a license. Hofer and another occupant were injured. Dorothy Lay 45 sustained minor injuries. Deputies and local police investigated the scene.

Milford Man Forces Estranged Wife At Gunpoint
Abey Southerland of Milford is jailed in Clermont County after a Friday incident in which he forced his estranged wife Ethel Southerland to accompany him at gunpoint. He was fined $600 total for pointing firearms and carrying concealed weapons, with a sawed off shotgun turned over to federal authorities.

Game Violators Are Fined by Local Justice
Five people were arrested over the weekend for violating game laws by Clermont County and Warren County protectors along with a Clermont Ranger. Each offender was fined 35 dollars plus 4.70 costs by Justice of the Peace W. D. Saunders. One man, Elliott Rogers Norwood, received 20 dollars plus 4.70 costs for taking an undersize boss.

Aaron Anstaett of Batavia filed two damage suits totaling 51 773 63 in Clermont County Common Pleas Court against a motorist and a school bus driver over a 1947 accident that killed his daughter Janet, 15. Bus driver C C Wiederhold was charged with failing to yield to the girl, who died ten days after the May 5 collision.
