Batavia school play and commencement draw crowded houses

The Batavia schools held a Wednesday class play featuring three one act plays and a Friday commencement with a large audience. Supt C Cookson praised the class and the Batavia Concert Band provided music as teachers and staff received credit for a successful term.

Obituary notices recount loss in rural Indiana and Ohio churches

The community mourns Nathan Chaille born 1867 at Butlerville Indiana died 1920 at 52. A long illness preceded sudden heart failure. He leaves a wife three children siblings and a large kin network. Funeral details note Levado Christian church and Newtonsville cemetery. Also Lucy Smith Jenike born 1879 died 1920 aged 40 mourned in Batavia and Norwood Ohio. She married Thomas Jenike in 1900 and left a son William. She battled illness after a flu infection and rests with her husband and family.

Clermont County Election Board Reorganizes Leadership

The Clermont County Election Board met in the county auditor’s office and re elected Leonard L. Harding of Milford as chief and Frank W. Stagg of Batavia as clerk. The board includes Les W. Phillips, Frank Harvey, and Leonard L. Harding with party affiliations noted.

Jackson Stonelick High School Commencement Program

The annual commencement at Jackson Stonelick High School in Owensville on May 14 features an invocation by Rev. Batavia Masonic Lodge Holds Master Degree Inspection

The Batavia Masonic lodge conducted inspection and Master degree work Saturday night with a large attendance. Ray Imholt and Earl Erion were the candidates, district lecturer praised the staff, Thos Glancy delivered the lecture, and a luncheon followed in the banquet room. Lodge membership stands at 183 and growing.

Deerfield Farm Woman's club met April 22 at Mrs Mary Glancy home to discuss Flower Garden topics led by Mrs Alma Patterson in Tillie Atchley’s absence. Masonic Dance to Headline Batavia Season

Batavia residents are invited to a grand Masonic dance on May 23 from 8 p m to 4 a m at the Loose Less Tobacco Warehouse near Batavia. Proceeds benefit the Batavia Masonic lodge and refreshments will be sold at reasonable prices. Jazz band music and a grand march promise a festive social event amid notes of community effort.

Mrs Rhinehart and Miss Alice Jackson attended Bethel pageant and commencement on Thursday and Friday. Gwendolyn Duchemin and Marie White joined Monterey community meeting Friday. Effa Kepler and sister visited the Normal class Monday. The Normal instructor and class enjoyed the Senior class play Wednesday. Alice Jackson visited Estella Anstaett and Mary Bissantz Wednesday night. Anna Baxton from Olive Branch spent Friday with the Normal class. Estella Anstaett led the county examination Friday. Alice notes questions about marriage license tax. Clara and Elsie Gillaspie of Mt Pisgah spent Thursday with Florence Gillaspie. Catherine Steinkolk and Esther Driscoll attended Friday’s commencement and returned home. The Normal class plans to meet the inventor of the new time scheme, and we pity him.

Batavia Ice Plant Sold to Welsh firm

The Batavia Ice Plant once run by Charles Craver and Arthur Ferree and later by a company has been sold to Kimble Ice Co of Welsh West Virginia and shipped to its new location. It reportedly never paid dividends and will be brought in by truck for local retail. Judge Joseph recently reappointed Jos I Larkin and O L Ireton as jury commissioners for a year.
