Batavia Opens Season With Win Over Madisonville at Lake Allyn

Batavia defeated Madisonville 8 to 0 in the season opener at Lake Allyn ball ground. A large crowd attended the clean, well-played game. The schedule notes Sunday games this summer and next match May 9 at Lake Allyne against the Ludlow Giants.

Clermont County Bankers Form County Association in Batavia

Cler­mont county bankers met in Batavia on Monday the 3rd to form The Clermont County Bankers Association. The group aims to promote closer business ties for the welfare of county banking. All county banks were represented with P. F. Jamieson as president, A. F. Kayser as vice president, and W. H. Baum as secretary and treasurer.

Third Time Fire Strikes Batavia Presbyterian Manse

The Batavia Presbyterian manse caught fire for the third time in recent years Saturday morning. Sparks from a contact with dry shingles started the blaze, extinguished quickly by Batavia firefighters who arrived promptly. the hose reel overturned en route but was recovered and used to douse the flames.

The Batavia high school commencement will be at town hall Friday May 7 with a program including Invocation by Rev. R B Wilson, diplomas presented by Supt. Agronomist G Williams at Ohio Experiment Station Wooster notes uncertain May sowing for oats. Earlier sowings yield 54 bu/acre, mid April 66, early May 50, with 82 lb and 27 lb per bushel measures. Season-to-season variation high. May 6 sometimes best, other years worst drop.

Stowe Resigns as Clermont County Farm Agent

Stowe, Clermont's popular county agent for four years, resigns to take a Marion county position at 4100 per year. He was a diligent worker in all farm bureau areas, always ready to instruct and answer questions. Clermont leads in the farm bureau counties, and his departure is received reluctantly. An able successor has been named.

Death of Mrs Lucy Jenike Former Batavia Resident

Mrs Lucy Jenike wife of Thomas Jenike formerly of Batavia died in hospital last Friday while recovering en route home. She conversed with her husband moments before death. health had waned for some time. Funeral at Norwood home Monday at 10 30 with cemetery services in Batavia at 2. Survived by husband son mother and brother. A Batavia High School graduate.

Undertaker W. P. Mefford Dies in Felicity After Illness

W. P. Mefford longtime county undertaker died at his Felicity home after a long sickness. He served as superintendent of the county infirmary years ago and was a staunch Republican. He is survived by a widow. Burial was set for Thursday.

Mothers Day Honors Church Services Across Town

Sunday May 9 is set apart as Mothers Day with churches planning appropriate exercises to honor and memorialize our best friend. Citizens are urged to attend services and pay tribute to maternal figures.

County Commissioners Convene in Special Session April 19

In a special session on April 19 with Shane, Lowe, and Ross present, the county auditor was authorized to issue warrants to Barret Bros. for supplies, Batavia B. of P. A. for light and water, Mark Brothers for ditching, Laub & Pringle for stone, Ohio Law Reporter for supplies, A. E. Price for gas and oil, and other vendors. Oscar Glancy was hired at 25 dollars per day for up to four days to grade and roll the Ohio pike. An Austin New Era elevating grader was approved for 1275 dollars in three payments, with petitioning for Ohio river road repair and Wayne township open county proceedings noted. Two Power Hoist Truck bodies were ordered from the Sykes Company.

Red Cross Meeting in Clermont County at Batavia Court House

A Clermont county Red Cross Chapter meeting and branch attendance are urged for Wednesday May 12 at 2:30 PM in Batavia Court House. County School Boards Meet in Clermont County Batavia

The annual Clermont County Board of Education meeting will be in Batavia on Wednesday May 12 at 1 30 p m. The gathering aims for a large turnout as boards discuss the new teachers salary schedule and revenue law with State School Commissioner in attendance to answer questions and explain provisions.
