Soldier Killed In Jeep Mishap In Vietnam

Sp 4c John W. McCoy, 21, Goshen, son of Mr and Mrs William McCoy, died in a jeep overturn while on duty in Vietnam. Enlisted 1965 after Goshen High School 1964, assigned to Vietnam since last July. Survived by brother James in the Army at Ft Polk. Body to be returned for services at Missionary Baptist Church Cook Rd and Guinea Pike. visitation at Monroe Copher Funeral Home Milford.

TES Quarters Authorized For County Youth Employment

TES has authorized use of office space and phone in the County Service Building Batavia to coordinate part time and summer jobs for in school youth in Clermont County. Rev John Benson will serve as finance chairman to raise funds for an operating budget. Applications have been distributed to schools. residents, firms and clubs are urged to help place youths aged in school. Call 732 1220 extension 52 or 70. Criteria include willingness to work and ability to perform under supervision.

Batavia Life Squad Buys New Ambulance

Batavia Life Squad voted to purchase a 1967 International ambulance from Wilson Implement Company Amelia after careful study of safety handling light rescue gear and terrain. The squad plans to serve Batavia and Batavia Township better amid rising accidents and misfortunes while thanking the community. Local winners of monthly $100 prizes were Jerry Fitzgerald Batavia in April and Don Sargeant New Richmond in May with Sheriff Don Watson drawing the names.

Robert Slade, assistant superintendent, will write a weekly education column for The Courier starting May 18. The Clermont Courier plans a special subscription offer to boost reader interest in county school news among teachers and students.

Batavia Business Association Sets June 3 Progressive Auction

The Batavia Business Association announces its second annual progressive street auction on June 3 starting at 10 am with Howard Bissantz as auctioneer. Any Batavia store may participate, member or not, as crowds tour shops. Rev J Richard Waddle chairs the auction committee.

Inspector Durbin Leads Reynoldsburg State School Session

Elmo Durbin, inspector of weights and measures, serves as Clermont County's delegate to the Reynoldsburg school that opened Tuesday and closes today. Arnold Stumpf, new county auditor and sealer of weights and measures, aims to attend at least one day. The state meter-testing unit for trucks carrying liquid fuels will be in the county May 16 19 at the county highway department garage. Albert Salter will assist.

Clermont County seeks 150000 grant for master plan

The Clermont County commissioners seek a 150 000 grant from the Economic Development Administration to finance a county master plan. The plan would fund air pollution control, solid waste disposal, sanitary sewers and plants, water storage and distribution, and water purification and supply to support continued growth.

Leaders Discuss County Hospital Operation With Sisters

County hospital leaders met with the Sisters of Mercy to explore operating a satellite hospital in Clermont at Our Lady of Mercy Mariemont. Clermont group to answer several questions as promoters consider building the facility with public funds and leasing to a non profit, easing bond approval to a 50 percent majority.

Hargett Loses Freedom Bid

A prison inmate John L. Hargett 36 of Williamsburg lost a freedom bid as Judge M Dale Osborne ruled against his petition He argued lack of counsel awareness of rights and misunderstanding of charges The case stemmed from burglaries in 1962 including escapes and thefts with a life plus 142 year sentence imposed by Judge Darrel Hottle Also charged were Richard Kalb 18 and four juveniles in a Laurel Grocery beer theft case with arrests at Batavia followed by a car search at the intersection of Routes 222 and 132 A church rummage and bake sale is announced for Belfast Methodist Church Milford May 12-13 9 am to 9 pm at the Milford Shopping Center Cemetery Rd

Grand Jury Indicts Ten in Clermont County Session

The Clermont County Grand Jury met over two days and indicted ten persons while dropping charges against four. Indicted individuals include John M. Puckett 20 of Bethel and John Winemiller 21 of Cincinnati with larceny by trick, and Genevieve Miller 42 of Williamsburg for issuing a bad check. Others face charges of morals counts, receiving stolen property, non support, and failure to provide for a pregnant wife. The jury commended Sheriff Donald Watson and the county jail and juvenile quarters for their upkeep.

Eighth Annual Student Government Day Held in Clermont County

County officials and seniors from all schools gathered for the Eighth Annual Student Government Day at the D X Ranch. Judge Harold D. Nichols spoke in court about county government and civic responsibility. Twenty seniors read essays on county issues as part of the program coordinated by local education and government officials.
