Officer Joins Sheriff's Staff
The Batavia Village lost its first and only police officer Monday when Officer Charles A. Good left to become a deputy in Sheriff Donald Watsons office. He was replaced by Deputy William Haynes who joined Hamilton County Sheriff Dan Tehan. Floyd Sells and Dave Darbro earned 4500 dollars per year plus hospital insurance as patrolmen. Darbro also worked part time for the street department and Seels for the water department. Donald Buckley County planner attended the meeting and offered to help draw plans for a proposed community park aimed at obtaining federal aid and land purchases or leases.

A public hearing at 8 p.m. May 18 in the Batavia county office building will consider Dr. Stanley Rafale of Silverton seeking rezoning from agriculture to general business for 25 of 75 acres at the inter section of Routes 222 and 132. Rafalo aims to build a motel, restaurant or gas station. the Batavia Township Zoning Commission will hear the case before sending it to township trustees. An interchange of the proposed Appalachia highway will be built nearby.

High School Girl Killed In Mishap
Patricia Ann Prater a 17 year old Amelia High School student from Mt. Holly died when her car overturned on Rt 222 near Batavia at 351 p.m. Sunday investigators say speed was a factor and she was alone in the car. The accident occurred on the curve south of Clermont Sportsmen's Park.
