Clermont County Health Board Budget Sets 1968 at $95,000

The Clermont County Board of Health budget for 1968 was cut to $95,000 by the budget commission formed by Prosecutor Robert A. Jones, Auditor Arnold Stumpf, and Treasurer Byron Ross, from $102,581 requested. The panel reduced salaries and operating costs, leaving Dr. Albert Van Sickle’s and a nurse’s salaries unchanged in the request but cutting other items such as salaries for nonmedical staff and contingencies.

Officer Joins Sheriff's Staff

The Batavia Village lost its first and only police officer Monday when Officer Charles A. Good left to become a deputy in Sheriff Donald Watsons office. He was replaced by Deputy William Haynes who joined Hamilton County Sheriff Dan Tehan. Floyd Sells and Dave Darbro earned 4500 dollars per year plus hospital insurance as patrolmen. Darbro also worked part time for the street department and Seels for the water department. Donald Buckley County planner attended the meeting and offered to help draw plans for a proposed community park aimed at obtaining federal aid and land purchases or leases.

Moore Elected Assn President In 1967-68 Term

Clermont County School Superintendent Harry R. Moore is the new president elect of the Southwestern Ohio County Superintendent's Association representing 26 Ohio counties. The officer slate for 1967 68 was chosen at the April 26 meeting in Wilmington. Other officers include Joseph West vice president Frank Long secretary treasurer.

Mosbacker Retires From Ohio Dept of Highways Post

Edgar C. Mosbacker of Batavia retires after 10 years as right of way agent for District 8 Ohio Department of Highways. He previously served 12 years as Clermont County Recorder, 10 years as Ohio Farm Bureau branch manager, and two years in defense work.

CG&E earnings rise for year ended March 31 1967

The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company and subsidiaries report net earnings of 1.92 dollars per common share for the twelve months ended March 31 1967 after preferred dividends, up from 1.75 dollars. Gas sales rose 9.2 percent and electric kilowatt hour sales 7.5 percent versus the prior year.

State Allots School Funds To Clermont County Districts

Clermont County schools received 229132 dollars under a state program announced this week by Ohio Auditor Roger Cloud. The measure directs funds to local districts to support operating costs and educational services.

Officials Seek Early Approval of EDA Grant

County commissioners visited Huntington West Virginia on Tuesday to press for swift action on a 1.1 million dollar grant to extend the MGS Water System. Accompanying them were Engineer Carl Rush Harland Mace manager of water and sewer systems and Allan Pett regional EDA representative. The extension would serve a proposed industrial park at Afton where four manufacturers have purchased parcels.

Bethel Schools Leader Rick Highlights in Community Briefs

Middle School Principal Rick of Bethel-Tate, a Ripley native, served as a World War II airman flying 42 South Pacific missions. He holds a 1950 Wilmington College degree and a master's from Xavier. He coached at Russellville High and now leads Bethel Junior High. His wife Janet teaches sixth grade. they have two children.

Hearing Set On Housing Authority Clermont County Proposal

A 1:30 p.m. hearing on creating a Clermont County housing authority is set for May 10 in Columbus. Endorsed by Loveland, New Richmond, Bethel, Felicity, county commissioners, 17 churches, and civic groups the authority would provide low rent housing for elderly and disadvantaged residents. Lloyd Llewellyn led the action committee. A supporters caravan leaves the county service center on Rt. 222 at 9:45 a.m. May 10 for the hearing.

Zoning Hearing Set For May 18

A public hearing at 8 p.m. May 18 in the Batavia county office building will consider Dr. Stanley Rafale of Silverton seeking rezoning from agriculture to general business for 25 of 75 acres at the inter section of Routes 222 and 132. Rafalo aims to build a motel, restaurant or gas station. the Batavia Township Zoning Commission will hear the case before sending it to township trustees. An interchange of the proposed Appalachia highway will be built nearby.

High School Girl Killed In Mishap

Patricia Ann Prater a 17 year old Amelia High School student from Mt. Holly died when her car overturned on Rt 222 near Batavia at 351 p.m. Sunday investigators say speed was a factor and she was alone in the car. The accident occurred on the curve south of Clermont Sportsmen's Park. Survivors include her father Herman Prater mother Lucy Prater a brother Raymond Prater Omaha Neb and a sister Mrs Donald Jenkins Hamm ersville.
