Floods and Winds Displace Dozens in Clermont County

Rising waters and high winds caused heavy property damage in Clermont County early this week. US 50 at Perintown, Route 222 near Batavia, and US 52 at Ten Mile Rd were closed. Milford and Loveland suffered severe flooding with about 20 Milford families forced to move from their homes. Police Chief Earl Konrad reported the evacuations.

New U.S. Marshal Hoh to Begin Duties May 24

Fred F. Hoh of New Richmond awaits Senate confirmation as U.S. marshal for southern Ohio. He will start duties May 24 with offices in Cincinnati Columbus and Dayton. Hartley Roe may replace Hoh as juvenile probation officer and regional staff detailed for three counties. Nearby storms cause evacuations and damage in Bethel Brown County and Newtown with power outages and floods.

Subdivision Streets Action Returns To Clermont County

Clermont County commissioners press developers to finish subdivision streets to county standards for public acceptance. Notices went to four of 28 with a May 22 deadline to state plans. Delays cited by Arley Edwards and Arley Edwards revised plat reflect access issues from rerouted State Route 28.

Social Security Benefits Reach 4988 in Clermont County

By end of 1960 more than 4 988 Clermont County residents received old age survivors and disability insurance benefits totaling 301 431 dollars for December 1960. $1 Million Electrical Expansion Planned for Cincinnati Area

The Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company launches a $1 million project to add a South Bethel Substation serving Brown and Clermont Counties. A 26 666 EVA transformer will feed two 66 000 volt lines from Clermont and Summerside substations, with 33 000 volt lines to Hamersville Georgetown and Williamsburg. Transport involved rail and rural highways, with Best Transfer Company moving the 92 000 pound unit.

County to Hold Town Meeting in Batavia

Commissioners set the first county town meeting for 8 p.m. Wednesday May 17 in the court house Batavia. All county officials will sit as a panel to answer questions on county government with one county judge as moderator. Civic groups are urged to select a spokesman to present questions.

Jaberg Elected President of NUT Firemen's Unit

Summerside report states Howard A. Jaberg of Elmont Drive was chosen as president of the North Union Township Volunteer Firemen's Association. Other officers include Elmo Hodges as vice president Lou Pfeiffer as corresponding secretary and E Buck Philo wer as treasurer. Five officers were elected to four year terms with William Nichols as marshal Richard Siegel as captain John Hopper as lieutenant and Chief Ray Riggs and Assistant Chief Russ Epeards continuing in their posts.

Bids Opened for Two More Ohio Highways Projects

The Ohio State Highway Department opened bids in Columbus for the second half of Route 74 from Willkowville to the Mt. Carmel line. Foley Construction Co. was the apparent low bidder at 1,443,202, with the engineer's estimate at 1,887,000. Condemnation may be needed for part of the right of way, and work start date is unsettled. Brewer and Sons Co. also bid on Route 132 corrections and Route 125 widening, with 78,053 and 78,949 respectively.

Accidental Death Ruled In Hanging Tragedy

Amelia County coroner Dr. A A Gruber ruled John Paul Scheel ten year old of Lindale death an accident after the boy was found hanging in a barn on Dr Charles Webby’s farm on Ten Mile Road. Requiem high mass was held May 10 at St Church with interment Mt Moriah Cemetery. He is survived by parents Dr Lester D and M Tyszniak Scheel two brothers Steven and Leo KR Scheel and grandmother Mrs Charles Scheel.

Art Of Clermont County To Be Shown At Milford Meeting

The Clermont County Historical Society will present The Art of Clermont County on May 12 at Milford Methodist Church at 8:00 p.m. The program features more than thirty paintings of historical Clermont County points by local artists including Mrs W Power Clancey and Mr Duveneck with works from private collections. A quintet will perform patriotic songs during the viewing and a short business meeting will precede the program.
