Permit Transfer Under Review in Clermont County

Ohio Department of Liquor Control director Richard C crouch reports one transfer application from Clermont County is being processed and a separate case involves violations by LaDonna Hawkins of Friendly Tavern New Richmond. Galileo Wright of The Hut Willowville filed to transfer a D 5 permit to Thomas Henry Spicer on April 17. The Clermont County court found Hawkins guilty of selling liquor to a minor but imposed no penalty.

Batavia Graduate Earns Doctorate In Philosophy

James E. Huheey earned a doctor of philosophy in chemistry from the University of Illinois in February and now works on a National Science Foundation project at the University of Ann Arbor. He is a Batavia High School and University of Cincinnati alumnus with an MS from Illinois, and an active member of several chemistry honor societies. Welfare Department Leases Hall Smith Property in Batavia

Clermont County commissioners approve leasing the Hall Smith property on Main Street Batavia to the Welfare Department for 250 dollars monthly with a five year renewal option. State Welfare Department must approve. it will cover about 80 percent of the rent.

Clermont County recorder William Shebasta released April figures with March comparisons. Deeds recorded 255 with 285 in March. mortgages 252. total dollar value 2,320,072 with 2,866,729 in March. char tel mortgages 802. fees collected 2,319.25 compared with 2,484.80 in March.

Developers Lose In Zoning Appeal In Cincinnati Court

The First District Court of Appeals refused Martin Land Development Co.’s writ of mandamus against Union Township officials. It ruled the company should have first appealed to Common Pleas Court over rezoning from R-1 to R-3 for Viking Village. The firm paid $95 000 for 131 acres in 1958 and says 16 000 was spent on a sanitary system. township zoning in 1959 mixed R-1 and R-3 and the appeal was denied by the township board and county commission.

Courier Foreman Suffers Severe Finger Cuts

Homer Wilson of Batavia, mechanical superintendent at Courier, suffered severe cuts on three fingers operating a metal saw. He received emergency care from Dr. F. S. Skeen and was sent to Christ Hospital, where the wounds were closed. He has over 40 years in printing and is expected to regain full use of his fingers. Fellow workers in editorial and mechanical departments will cover his duties until he returns.

County Invests In Treasury Notes

County commissioners authorized investing $200,000 in treasury notes after consulting the treasurer and auditor and obtaining a prosecutor’s opinion. The notes would earn $1,000 for the county for each 90 day period the funds remain invested.

Judge Denies Ison Trial Motions in Bribery Case

Hamilton County Court denied Don Ison’s motions for a new trial after a juryless bench trial found him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of accepting bribes from builders. Judge Schneider wrote that credibility issues favored guilt and sentenced Ison to one to ten years on each of the three counts, to run concurrently.

Harold D. Nichols, Batavia attorney and Society of American Magicians member, will perform the Hindu rope illusion under black light at a May 12 Batavia high school auditorium magic show. Summer School Planned by West Clermont District

West Clermont local school district will run a summer program with classes in English mathematics and history. Electives may be added based on enrollment and a speech therapy component will be offered with fees set by enrollment. Remedial reading courses may run if enrollment justifies and outside district students pay an extra per course.
