Former Batavia resident dies in Warren County crash

Nathan Rosenzweig 60 of Milford, ex Batavia operator of Rosenzweig's Department Store and Batavia Businessmen's Association member, remains in poor condition after a two car collision on Rt 28 near Blanchester. Lician Barrett 50 of Milford died at hospital. George Mason 35 of Blanchester injured with leg fractures and cuts.

Fire disrupts Batavia area services and destroys car shop

A Monday early morning blaze gutted Schott-Kimball A Davis Pike Main St Batavia destroying six 1961 autos and damaging more. Fire crews led by Chief Cliff Evanshine fought the three hour blaze as explosions from paint and gasoline tanks occurred. Telephone service across Batavia was knocked out with 133 local subscribers and 23 trunk lines affected until repairs by Cincinnati Suburban Bell Telephone Co. restored lines by Tuesday night. Firefighter Lou Darbo was treated for a hand injury and bystander Jake Iker suffered a severe arm cut. The firm’s temporary location moved to Schott-Kimball Used Car Lot on W Ohio Pike.

Hartley Roe, former police chief, was appointed chief probation officer of Juvenile Court by Judge Orville Habisch. Roe begins his duties immediately, while Holt assumes duties as US marshal for southern Ohio on May 24.

Suro Charges Movement To Kill Planning Unit

Suro, executive director of the Clermont County Planning Commission, alleged a movement to eliminate the planning commission. He cited budget cuts and reduced operating space as motives and reported threats while noting a Chicago study trip to seek federal funds for a county sewer system. He warned residents must decide whether they want planning and said a written report will follow in weeks.
