A fire damaged James Hitch’s residence on Monday and sparked by a clematis fuel, with the roof ignited before firefighters arrived. Last Friday morning Swing’s saw mill two miles west of Bethel burned, discovered by John Sargeant. loss estimated at 3000 dollars with no insurance. A feed mill in the same building was also destroyed as plans to dismantle the mill for summer operation near Bantam were underway.
