Williamsburg rejoices over twin nuptials of promising locals. Wren Widmeyer and Miss Alice McNutt wed May 4 at the bride’s home with Rev Black officiating, followed by a large reception and generous gifts. Carrie Knauer and J M Davidson wedding planned for Thursday evening.
J M Davidson a prominent county teacher wed Miss Carrie Knauer of Williamsburg on May 5 1887 at the bride’s uncle Frank Pohls home. Rev Roben of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church officiated. The couple hosted a serenade and a grand supper. a large reception followed at the bridegrooms home.
A local business reports its spring trade has more than doubled compared with last year. The owners credit printer ink and low prices for dry goods clothing and footwear, promoting quick sales and small profits as the modern method.
The Bethel commencement program for Friday May 13 presents Rev. L. H. Denman delivering a school address, musical selections by Kelley James Stone Bol and the Grant McNair quartet Friendship Love and Song, Driftwood Winter Fires, Foster McCormick Greeting Song Invocation, Callie Justice duet The Parting, and performances by Charles McKibben, Henry Hanley, Harte Wilson, Frank Ellsberry, Jerome Behymer, plus an annual address by Judge James B. Swing and a presentation of degrees.
A May 7 letter to Clermont County Commissioners requests two bridges be repaired or rebuilt on county roads. The first bridge over a creek near Mametville needs abutments due to heavy travel. The second bridge near Peter Graveland’s farm on Leipin Road is weakened as abutments washed away in the freshet.
A farming territory near New Richmond sees two burglars captured after a ring of thieves stole meat from smoke houses for months. Gordon Nelson bonded at 300 dollars, Albert Nelson jailed on 500 bail, with warrants out for John and Joann Nelson, the alleged ring leaders.
Clermont county looks forward to Bantam Fair on the last two days of August and first two of September. A home institution led by President Major vo. Ricker and a broad board including Dr. W. E. Thompson and Frank A. Hitch, plus other directors, with monthly progress updates promised.
Clermont contractors spar over the iron Stonelick bridge superstructure with ten bids listed from Champion to Pittsburg Bridge Co. The commission adjourned to Tuesday to finalize awards as bids range from about 4,480 to 5,120 dollars, with James A. Huston of Smith's Bridge Co. among late bidders.

Ten bids for $10,000 of Stonelick bridge bonds were submitted with premiums from $0 to $373. The Milford National Bank won the contract at no county cost for printing, aided by its status as a major local taxpayer. Bonds issue in two $5,000 series at about five to six percent interest.
A county wide teachers examination after a large turnout, with questions across U S History Geography Grammar and general subjects. The list includes sample questions on mind faculties pedagogy reading, early navigators, slavery, New Sweden, Continental Congress, Johnson impeachment, planetary science, deserts and climate, spheres and volumes, arithmetic, grammar rules, and diagramming.
Three Clermont villages Moscow Loveland and Goshen push natural gas and oil ventures with chartered companies and capital stocks ranging from 3000 to 5000 dollars. Moscow reports 1100 dollars subscribed. Loveland forms with 5000 dollars. Goshen hosts Cincinnati capitalists eyeing a shaft near Charleston two miles south of Goshen with plans to lease 4000 acres and start before month end.
The Cincinnati Pioneers Grand Picnic will be held at Batavia June 10 with W R Walker and John W Kain as Batavia organizers and W Dennis supervising in Cincinnati. Three foot races compete for silver cups and pitchers. a silver pitcher is awarded per race. Special train service via C N W railroad will run to Williamsburg, inviting Batavia citizens and the local silver cornet band to attend.

A May 1 birth in Troy Ohio gives Col. T. D. Fitch and wife a daughter. The note arrives by mail from the proud father announcing the happy event and offering congratulations.
The G A R Post in Goshen Township, Clermont County, was inspected by Assistant Inspector J G Irwin on April 28. Commander A B Smith and officers were in position, the adjutant and quartermaster books were in order, and members enjoyed speeches and a harmonious gathering. The post invites all Union veterans to join before year’s end.
Mrs Mary Dean Ricker aged fifty four wife of W W Ricker Esq of Amelia died at her daughter Mrs Mina Caldwell's home in Cincinnati Sunday morning at 3 o'clock Interment will be from her Amelia residence Monday morning She was a highly regarded Christian lady with a large circle of friends and relatives.
L Donovan elected Principal in Neville special district F by unanimous vote for a third term with the same salary of $50 per month. Miss Nettie Hastings named assistant at $30. In Union district Robert Howard erased at $33, district No 4 Frank Boys $85, Washington district Miss Emma Jones $33 per month.
John A. Kline launches the Kline Engraving Company at 177 West Fourth Street Cincinnati introducing the alea photo. He will take photographs in Batavia occasionally and the gallery will be open for a few days around the first of next month.
The advertisement touts Simmons Liver Regulator as a remedy after meals to prevent indigestion. It emphasizes mild pleasant effects, correcting acidity, removing foul gases, easing irritation, and aiding overall digestion.
Clermont Normal School opens its Summer term Monday May 23 in Bethel. Principals D N Cross and F E Swing lead a well equipped staff with strong community support. About forty teachers and high school pupils plan to attend, drawing pupils from Moscow Neville Point Isabel Chile Felicity Mt Olive Wigginsville Balt Alt Laurel Nicholaville Burlington Bantam Mt Holly Amelia Concord Williamsburg Clover Georgetown Higginsport Hamersville Letonia Mt Crab Sardinia Brown County and others. Tuition is 6 for the term or 1 per week with board 2 to 3. Hotels or private homes provide lodging. Courses cover all legal branches including U S History Geography Physiology and Yale. A class of ten or more may take the science course.

Henry Biehn, longtime postmaster of Ripley and German, was removed by President Cleveland on general principles. He had served since 1858 under Pierce and later presidents, witnessing many chief executives die or leave office, except Cleveland.

The Clermont County Medical Society will hold its next regular semi annual meeting at Batavia on Wednesday May 18 with a social program and attendance expected. The Miami Valley Medicine held their semi annual meeting at Loveland yesterday with speakers including Dr I L Cop Dr J O Marsh Dr Trimble and Dr I S Goshen. Dr F H Morrow presided and Dr William Scott served as secretary at Loveland.

The event drew many locals and recent arrivals from Stuttgart and Württemberg, who enjoyed American customs and expressed interest in becoming Clermont County citizens. A Sunday school convention plans a major children’s meeting at Batavia City Hall, led by Rev. Dr. Chidlaw, inviting all area schools.
In Clermont County Miss Mary M Pease sues Charles E Manning for breach of promise after he pursued her in 1884 at Bethel then courted Mary Riley and married another in 1886. Case No 8780 proceeds in Clermont Common Pleas with damages sought at 5000 dollars.
Loveland reports a runaway horse caused excitement with little damage. A wedding at the Cushing home united Samuel Shorten and Mamie Cushing. A strawberry festival at the Presbyterian church drew attendees and fine refreshments. High School Literary Society showcased strong student work with prizes awarded. Community figures Rev.
