Nine Hundred Recorded in This County for Soldier Discharges

The Ohio county records show only about nine hundred veterans’ discharges filed with the county recorder. Since the Civil War, a 35 cent fee has been charged to record and return the original discharge. Pension bills keep veterans in focus, and by future decades most Union soldiers may be pensioned. The earliest entry is George W. Lewis 1864. the latest James T. Booth 18th O. N. G. 186?. In 1886 only fourteen discharges were recorded.

Savage assault near Williamsburg leaves farmer near death

In a road near Williamsburg John Snider attacked 60 year old Andy Johnson with stones after a land trespassing dispute. One blow to the head knocked Johnson senseless and Snider fled. If Johnson dies or Snider is captured the case could go to the penitentiary.
