Clermont County Sunday School Convention a Success

The fifty sixth annual Clermont County Sunday-school Association convention in Batavia highlighted religious education at home church and community. Speakers included Dr. E Leigh Mudge Rev W G Loucks Rev J M Small Rev Jas Thomas and L B Edgar with divisional conferences and reports from children young peoples and adults. Officers were named and plans announced for future events including a Geneva Wisconsin training school and a July 4 county picnic.

Odd Fellows Visit Strengthens Mt Carmel Lodge Bonds

The Batavia Odd Fellows visited Mt. Carmel lodge Saturday night to confer the first degree on 12 candidates, followed by lunch. The Mt. Carmel lodge is noted as one of the strongest financially in the county.

The Serpent Mound Park committee reports the park in excellent condition under custodian Guy Wallace. In the year 12,600 visitors registered with an estimated 1,000 unregistered, aided by the Serpent Effigy at the enclosure entrance. Improvements include concrete balls on entrance columns and indestructible signs bearing Serpent Mound Park, inviting full day visits.

Postmistress Beacham announced that April sales of Treasury Savings Certificates at the Williamsburg post office reached $871?25. She urged safety of principal over high returns, noting certificates offer up to $4000 investments with 43.96 percent annualized interest compounded semi annually and redeemability. Certificates come in $1000 $100 and $25 denominations and are available locally.

Death of Husband in Batavia Sparks Local Notice

Ward reached Batavia last Saturday for the death of Mr. McCaskill husband of Mrs. Della Temple McCaskill of Minnesota. He was a public school teacher and had been ill only briefly.

At a community meeting last Thursday night the Batavia public schools 14 member Home Economies class showcased sewing and cooking projects. The display impressed attendees with neat dresses hats and well prepared dishes and praise was given to Miss McCall for her training efforts.

Tractor crushes farmer at Shaw farm in Ohio

Henry Moore a 34 year old farmer formerly of Maysville Kentucky was crushed to death Saturday at Ellnor Elenor Ohio five miles east of Milford while repairing a tractor at Shaw farm. His wife found him after several hours and Coroner A C Christopher was notified. Funeral services were held Tuesday. He leaves a widow and one child.

Inspections Set by Owensville OES and Hamer Lodge

Owensville Chapter No 370 OES will be inspected by Sister Anna McCormick on Saturday May 13 with three candidates to receive degrees and lunch served. Hamer Lodge No 228 will be inspected by District Lecturer C N Kress on May 20 with Master Mason degree and use of the new temple. May 17 is a special communication for Master Mason work.

Batavia Chapter hosts visiting Masons for Royal Arch work

Batavia Chapter 112 of the R A M welcomed many visiting brothers from city lodges last Saturday. Past High Priests of Cincinnati performed the Royal Arch degree using their regalia and slides. Fifteen chapters represented with 44 visiting companions from three states. A banquet followed with 115 companions seated. Batavia Lodge F and A M plans two degree conferrals this Saturday evening.

The Batavia township trustees and Batavia council met in a joint session last Saturday to draft a cemetery budget for the county auditor. A quorum from both bodies elected Henry Rau Kyle Moyer and Chas Slade as cemetery trustees. Funds for upkeep are low and lot owners should face annual assessments rather than relying on taxpayers.

Hagenbeck Wallace Circus to Perform in Cumminsville and Norwood

The Hagenbeck Wallace Circuses will pitch tents in Cumminsville on May 15 and Norwood on May 16 with two shows in each city. A downtown ticket office will sell tickets at the usual prices.
